From the diaries.
Just when you thought the Progressive Left could not go any lower, they do. We have seen them stand on the bodies of victims to push their gun control agenda in Orlando and use riots, property destruction and assault to object to Donald Trump’s presidency to name just a few. You would think the tragedy left in the wake of Hurricane Harvey might be too much for even the most far Left voices to politicize, but you would be wrong.
Late Sunday night, standing upon the pile of loss of of life, suffering and destruction in the greater Houston area is none other than Linda Sarsour. The self proclaimed “feminist” who holds the burqa up as a sign of women’s empowerment and sings the praises of Sharia law, reached a new low in this tweet which was making the rounds this morning.

The link in her tweet brings you to a Hurricane Harvey Relief site that is part of the Texas Organizing Project Education Fund. This particular fundraiser, listed on a red block in the header of the organization’s website, pledges to do the following:
Rebuilding in areas impacted by Harvey will be most challenging for marginalized communities. Nearly a quarter of Houstonians live in poverty — approximately 550,000 people. We also estimate that there are 575,000 immigrants in the Houston metro area. We will work to move the material aid the most vulnerable hit by Harvey to ensure their access to critical services — from first response and basic needs to healthcare, housing, transportation, immigration.
Together we will organize and advocate for our devastated communities, shining a spotlight on inequalities that emerge in the restoration of lives, livelihoods, and homes, amplifying the needs of hard-hit communities, and providing legal assistance for residents wrongfully denied government support.
If you go to their website, it appears they are staffed by professional organizers and agitators, political and policy staff and some administrative folks. Hardly disaster relief professionals, first responders or social workers that can assist people in finding resources and help.
The fact that they list first response and basic care, as well as a whole host of other, non-disaster related items such as “immigration” and vow to be advocates by “shining a spotlight on inequities” tells me enough to know that money will be used primarily for their pet issues in the social justice arena. The time for first response and basic needs will be well past by the time they mobilize. This organization is not even old enough to be rated by Charity Navigator and their assets per their Form 990 from 2015 shows well over $1.2M in salary, administrative and overhead expenses on fundraising of $1.67M.
This is not the first time Linda Sarsour has shown lack of judgement raising funds. Earlier this year she rushed to raise money for Rahma Warsame, who alleged she was the victim of a hate crime. No hate crime charges were filed, but nearly $100,000 was raised for the alleged victim by Ms. Sarsour. Other news reports also showed the alleged victim may not have been as sympathetic as Ms. Sarsour would have led donors to believe.
So shady is as shady does. If you want to provide the victims of Hurricane Harvey with social justice activism, please follow Linda’s link. If you want to provide relief, supplies, temporary housing, clothes and other needed items please look at Charity Navigator’s Hurricane Harvey page. They do an excellent job of promoting transparent organizations who put the money donated to the cause it is intended for. With a range of religious and secular organizations who receive four stars from the site, it provides options for everyone.
And of course Linda is now retweeting all of the less than complimentary responses to her plea for funds. Because calling out a sham is Islamophobia or something.
