Republicans are proving they have the political instincts of a tree stump and all the savvy maneuvering of a lemming in a tracksuit. More specifically, I'm referring to the Georgia GOP.
Republican legislative leaders in the Peach State sent a letter just hours before Wednesday's special session began, flatly rejecting Governor Brian Kemp’s (R) push to redraw congressional and state legislative maps for 2028.
By extension, they are also thumbing their nose at President Trump, who has rightly calculated that Democrats would weaponize the redistricting tool as a means to gain power, and urged his party to get ahead of it.
That would require a spine. And there aren't x-rays or microscopes powerful enough on this planet to locate one on some Republicans.
The session hadn't even happened yet, and GOP lawmakers in the Georgia General Assembly were already waving the white flag on redistricting.

House Speaker Jon Burns, in a letter to Kemp, cited the need for “more time” and public input before engaging in the process.
"Changes to Georgia’s maps should take place only when members of the General Assembly and citizens have been given ample opportunity to gather the facts, provide input, and engage in meaningful discussion," he wrote. "For this reason, we will not be taking up congressional or legislative redistricting for the 2028 election cycle during this special session.”
Speaker Pro-Tempore Jan Jones, House Majority Leader Chuck Efstration, Majority Whip James Burchett, and a handful of other Republican leaders signed the letter.

Y'all understand we can't play games with power-hungry libs any longer, right? They opened up this redistricting can of worms in New York. They blatantly violated the Constitution in Virginia in a separate power grab, so much so that even the John Roberts-led Supreme Court had to smack them down. And they tried segregating voting districts in Louisiana, which is what brought us to this golden opportunity to write wrongs, Georgia.
Do you just like losing? Did you forget about the 'fight, fight, fight' mantra that saved this country in 2024?
As the late, great James Hellwig once said, "There is no place to run! All the fuses in the exit signs have been burnt out!"
Now, I don't know exactly what that means, but it's got something to do with cowards. Small-minded people who shrink even further when it comes to making the tough choices that will help the Republican party win. Choices that will help common-sense abiding Americans win.
Kemp issued a statement suggesting the Georgia House Speaker is full of it when he surmises they need more time.
"I do not believe there is reason to delay the apportionment process, especially with the legislature already convening," he said, while conceding they have a right to shirk their duties. "Legislative districting, however, is the responsibility of the General Assembly, and it is within their discretion to defer the issue until a later date."
Redistricting could have netted Georgia Republicans 2–3 additional congressional seats for the 2028 cycle, considerably boosting their House majority and sending a message that they’re willing to play the same hardball game Democrats have mastered in blue states.
Instead, they drop down in the fetal position.
Indiana, South Carolina, and now Georgia.
Some Republicans would rather play it safe than seize power when the Supreme Court just handed them the opportunity. If you can't take the heat, get out of the damn kitchen.
Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
