NY Dem's Latest Move Is a Blatant Attempt to Ruin Tesla Solely Because of Elon Musk's Ties to Trump

New York state Sen. Patricia Fahy (D) has introduced legislation that would effectively ban Tesla’s five in-person sales locations in the Empire State.

Why? Because of Elon Musk's association with the Trump administration.

“No matter what we do, we’ve got to take this from Elon Musk,” Fahy said, according to Politico. “He’s part of an effort to go backwards.”

Senate Bill S6894, introduced on March 26th, seeks to maintain the number of in-person sales locations at five but "provides that certificates issued prior to 1/1/25 shall not be eligible for renewal."

Former Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo issued those certificates to Tesla through a brokered deal in 2014 that grandfathered them in. At the time, Cuomo hailed the agreement as a means to ensure New York "remains a leader in spurring innovative businesses and encouraging zero-emissions vehicle sales."

Is there anything more tyrannical than purposely trying to destroy a business simply because you don't like the politics of their CEO? This goes well beyond boycotting and taking your money somewhere else in protest.

It's trying to ruin a genuine American company because your feelings have been hurt. You're also yanking sales prospects from one business and handing them to others.

Under Fahy's bill, other electric vehicle (EV) dealerships would be allowed to compete for the permits that would be ripped from Tesla.

Free market be damned. Free speech, as well, for that matter. The Democrat's proposal would lay the groundwork for any business in New York to be attacked by the government if their leadership does not align with left-wing ideology.

Again, I ask, is there anything more un-American?

State Assemblyman Bobby Carroll (D/WF-Brooklyn) would like to join Fahy in her attempt to sink Tesla. He has called for an outright ban on Tesla's direct sales.

Carroll said he wanted to close the "Tesla loophole" by adding, "We should never have done this for Elon Musk in the first place."

Remarkably, they're not even trying to mask this as some sort of move to create economic competition in the state. They're just flat-out admitting, 'Hey, we kind of want to ruin Musk because he gives us a case of the sads.'

“The bottom line is, Tesla has lost their right to promote these when they’re part of an administration that wants to go backwards,” Fahy claimed. “Elon Musk was handed a privilege here.”

Fahy wasn't always blinded by Musk Derangement Syndrome when it comes to EVs and the environment. In 2022, she sponsored legislation that sought to expand direct sale locations for electric vehicles in New York. There was no mention that Tesla must be stripped of their locations, nor did it seek to ban them from any expansion sites.

The only concern here was the "climate goals."

The Democrat also added an amendment to a bill that year requiring the state’s electric vehicle fleet to be American-made, adding a 'Buy American' requirement for the lease or purchase of zero-emission vehicles for that fleet.

Again, climate goals.

Tesla is the undisputed leader in the American EV market. Democrats are trying to destroy a uniquely American company that promotes environmental goals all because of who their CEO is.

Wrecking - or trying to wreck - businesses over political leanings is nothing new to left-wing ideologues in New York.

Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio tried to boycott Chick-fil-A restaurants in the city due to their owners’ personal beliefs about traditional marriage. Liberty Ridge, a farm that declined to host a same-sex wedding due to their religious beliefs but still offered to hold the reception at their establishment, was fined thousands of dollars and hauled in front of a Human Rights Commission in New York.

Cuomo spent much of COVID pulling liquor licenses and trying to ruin the restaurant and bar industry for any entrepreneur who disagreed with the state's draconian pandemic measures.

And, of course, who could forget what New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) did in trying to destroy President Trump's real estate empire?

The message from New York Democrats is loud and clear: You're not welcome here if you have opposing viewpoints. That should give every resident of the state chills.
