Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was photographed grabbing some takeout at a high-end Sushi restaurant in Washington, D.C. — hours after visiting storm-ravaged North Carolina.

The incident continues a disturbing trend of extremely out-of-touch behavior in the wake of natural disasters Hurricanes Helene and Milton. The storms have resulted in hundreds of lives lost and, in the case of Helene, left countless individuals missing even to this day.

Mayorkas, the first Cabinet secretary to be impeached in 150 years, announced that he had touched down in the Tar Heel State on X, just after 10 AM on Thursday.

He declared that he would be "speaking firsthand" with FEMA officials about "our relief and recovery efforts in the state following #Helene’s damage and devastation."

Seemingly content with the update, photographers for the New York Post caught Mayorkas emerging from Nobu, a "luxury" Japanese restaurant chain, hours later.

The DHS Secretary was snapped exiting the restaurant wearing the same suit he had been seen wearing in North Carolina. He was, according to the outlet, "carrying bags of food" from the restaurant "where sushi and sashimi selections are priced at $60 a plate." 

Mayorkas was reportedly back in D.C. by 4 PM — less than six hours after he touched down in North Carolina.

If Mayorkas is concerned about bad optics for the Biden-Harris administration, he isn't showing it. And he clearly isn't learning from the bad press he already generated after being caught cavorting on a luxury shopping spree while the feds were badly fumbling the response to Helene.

Washington Free Beacon reporter Joseph Simonson captured an image of the Secretary shopping at a high-end menswear store this past Saturday.

Ironically, National Pulse Editor-in-Chief Raheem Kassam responded to the image on social media by claiming he likely had dinner that night at Nobu, where he has seen him "way too often."

It's good to know that while FEMA may have run out of funds, Mayorkas' wallet is flush with cash shopping in stores where "suit jackets go for as much as three thousand dollars" and dining at restaurants where "the highest-grade Wagyu steaks go for $40 per ounce."

News of Mayorkas bolting for sushi comes as reports have surfaced that nearly 100 people have been found dead in North Carolina. Additionally, an unknown number of victims are still missing.

Authorities from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) tell Fox News they are unable to confirm the number of missing individuals. Initial estimates had that number as high as 600.

Hurricane Helene made landfall late last month in Florida’s Big Bend region, before leaving a path of destruction stretching through Georgia and the Carolinas. 

Last. Month.

People are still missing. Bodies are most likely to continue being found in the days ahead. But at least Mayorkas was able to cure his craving for sushi.

Not to be outdone, presidential candidate Kamala Harris has also exhibited some extraordinarily tone-deaf behavior while North Carolinians are suffering.

Harris cracked open some beers with Stephen Colbert and joined a sex podcast called "Call Her Daddy" while the feds struggled with their response to Helene.

Mayorkas and Harris are all too eager to abandon victims in some of their darkest days so long as it means beer and sushi for them.
