Remember Brian Cornell, the Target CEO who doubled down on Target’s extremely dubious transgender bathroom policy last year, citing an “unwavering” focus on safety?
According to Politico, he just got made the new chairman of the Retail Industry Leaders Association, a.k.a., the retail industry’s lobbying presence in Washington, D.C.
The move was announced Monday at the Association’s “CEO Forum” in Tucson. It is unclear whether the selection of Cornell might impact the Association’s relationships with strong social conservatives who voiced concerns about Target’s policies.
One looming GOP political figure who seems non-plussed about the move is Mitt Romney, assumed to be running for retiring GOP Sen. Orrin Hatch’s Utah Senate seat, and who was scheduled to speak to the CEO Forum the same day as Cornell’s election.
