EPA Could Care Less About Poor Children

Child poverty remains astoundingly high in America. This true despite risible claims that our economy is in recovery. The stock market and housing prices recovered. A lot of people gave up looking for work so the statistics look better. Beyond that, it’s the same situation we had in 2008. Particularly when we count how many children are in poverty.

An astounding 16.1 million kids—22 percent of American children—were living in poverty in 2013, the report found. That’s 3 million more impoverished kids than in 2008, when the nation was reeling from the subprime mortgage crisis. Children of color were worst off, with 39 percent of African American, 37 percent of Native American, and 33 percent of Hispanic kids living in poverty.

But fear not, suffering people of America! The government arrives to help you. They are here to help you the way a drowning person is helped if you jam a live hose down his gullet. You see our current administration intends to cure poverty by making electricity more expensive through EPA regulations. The Black Chamber of Commerce tells us that minorities and children are hardest hit. According to their study entitled “Potential Impact of Proposed EPA Regulations on Low-Income Groups and Minorities,” we get the following negative externality from assaulting coal-fired power generation.

A study commissioned by the National Black Chamber of Commerce to evaluate the potential economic impacts of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) clean power plan (CPP) on minority groups, found the CPP would increase poverty in the black community by 23 percent and cause the loss of 7 million jobs for black Americans by 2035. Looking at the impact of the CPP on the Hispanic community, the study found it would increase poverty among Hispanics by 26 percent and result in the loss of 12 million jobs in the Hispanic community by 2035.

So absent a Deus ex Machina from the laughably unsuccessful Green Power Initiatives launched by the current administration, our nation will increasingly face higher prices for electricity at a time when more American children are living in poverty. This gets increasingly ghoulish as we hear about how abortion providers now sell fetal tissue of the kids they abort. It could almost be argued that a country callous enough about its children to allow 50 million of them to be aborted in the last 5 decades can be predicted to sell its children out every time their commonweal is set in a trade space against other priorities.

So it goes with the people who promised us Hope and Change. It was all about putting people first. Unless, of course, if those people can’t vote and neglect to donate to the appropriate PAC. So when you fight the EPA regulations that threaten to make energy more expensive and heat less available next Winter, don’t just be greedy. Do it for the children. They will be the ones hardest hit by The Obama Administration EPA.
