Stuart was asleep in his crib. He was due to be fed but hadn’t yet woken. I heard him stir but as I looked at his round face on the brink of wakefulness, I felt no bond. No warm rush of maternal affection. I felt completely detached from this alien being who had encroached upon my settled married life and changed it, irrevocably, for the worse.
Children are tough on the Me First Society. They expect to be fed or something. They take and take and take and rarely before their 21st birthday do you start getting that ROI. Once you’ve killed God and gone down the solipsistic wormhole far enough, they become parasites, aliens in a universe populated by only Me, Myself and I. At that point you reach a certain “weness” with well-intentioned but misunderstood guys like Kermit Gosnell.
You see, if you feel like Isabella Wood (the British mother quoted atop the post) then a guy like Kermit Gosnell isn’t a baby-killer. He’s out there trying to cure cancer. Fortunately for Poor, Little Staurt, Mrs. Wood never quite acted on her feelings of hatred and resentment towards her own offspring. But you see that sentiment broadcast and amplified by leading proponents of political Leftism. Barack Obama meant what he said about not wanting his daughters to be punished with a baby.
To people like the wonderful and dedicated people at The Alan Guttmacher Institute, Kermit Gosnell is what happens when people get in the way of the well-lubricated abortion assembly line. They get upset that a large number of state legislators are acting to protect unborn children and list what they consider onerous and unfair below.
mandated parental involvement prior to a minor’s abortion;
• required preabortion counseling that is medically inaccurate or misleading;
• extended waiting period paired with a requirement that counseling be conducted in-person, thus necessitating two trips to the facility;
• mandated performance of a non–medically indicated ultrasound prior to an abortion;
• prohibition of Medicaid funding except in cases of life endangerment, rape or incest;
• restriction of abortion coverage in private health insurance plans;
• medically inappropriate restrictions on the provision of medication abortion;
• onerous requirements on abortion facilities that are not related to patient safety;
• unconstitutional ban on abortions prior to fetal viability or limitations on the circumstances under which an abortion can be performed after viability; or
• preemptive ban on abortion outright in the event Roe v. Wade is overturned
You see the whole problem here is that kids like Staurt Woods are being considered human beings. Even before they are born and make inconvenient noises while being eradicated! The gall of these wingnuts…An editorialist for the Philly Post is appalled that Kirsten Powers over at USA Today wants to call attention to the Gosnell trial at all.
Whether Gosnell was killing the infants one second after they left the womb instead of partially inside or completely inside the womb — as in a routine late-term abortion — is merely a matter of geography. That one is murder and the other is a legal procedure is morally irreconcilable. Powers’s aim is to draw attention to the fact that the Gosnell murder charges should make us consider whether there’s really a difference between killing a baby inside the womb, or outside, as he so horrifically did. But this is misleading.
The Philly Columnist goes on to castigate people who restrict abortions. You wouldn’t have these freaks like Gosnell in a properly licensed clinic. The abortionist doesn’t keep baby feet in a jar like some PUA blogger carving notches on the bedpost when the government licenses the baby-killing so that it is civilized.
I’ll go ahead violate Goodwin’s Law here. The comparisons in my mind are apt. The silly Nazis insisted on using Cyclon-B and making the Jews do the St. Vitus Dance instead of killing six million undesirables nicely. That does it! I’m going back in my time machine and revoking all of Triblinka’s carefully prepared government paperwork.
You can’t license people who act uncivilized. It leads to just the sort of unpleasantness we got at Gosnell’s clinic in Filthadelphia. If you want America to get rid of 50 million unborn children since Roe v. Wade, you have to do it quietly and utter all the proper euphemisms.
From my perspective* nothing Kirsten Powers said misled or slighted the truth. The truth, and what America needs if it wants a future is thousands of years old. Indulge me as I lay out my 2,000 year old superstitions below. If the Philly Inquirer is in any way worried about people being misled over this whole inconvenient Kermit Gosnell kerfluffle the following just has to be said.
3 Lo, children are a heritage of the LORD:
and the fruit of the womb is his reward.4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man;
so are children of the youth.5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them:
they shall not be ashamed,
but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
We as a nation need to remember this fundamental wisdom. We need to fight abortion, anti-natalism, and all other forms of Post-modern nihilism that target the defenseless children. Remind the people who want to “understand Gosnell” or “see through the misperceptions of what happened in Philly” that to deconstruct murder is to devalue life. The death of a nation is when that nation’s next generation stops being born.
