Hot on the heels of Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-14) revealing that he was resigning from Congress, GOP Rep. Tony Gonzales (TX-23) has announced that he will be resigning as well.
Gonzales posted a brief note about it on X at 6:30 ET, an hour after Swalwell posted his:
There is a season for everything and God has a plan for us all. When Congress returns tomorrow, I will file my retirement from office. It has been my privilege to serve the great people of Texas.

As RedState reported in early March, Gonzales, who, like Swalwell, faced calls for expulsion, dropped his reelection bid for Congress just days after the primary put him in a May runoff with GOP candidate Brandon Herrera, a staunch proponent of the Second Amendment.

"This came after exposure of his affair with his now-deceased regional district director, Regina Santos-Aviles [who committed suicide], and pressure from GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson (LA-04) and GOP House leadership to suspend his campaign," RedState's Jennifer Oliver O'Connell noted at the time.
Gonzales' announcement also comes just days after an explosive report from the San Antonio Express-News that alleged he had a pattern of predatory behavior with female staffers that included allegedly sending sexually explicit text messages to his former political director, something we also wrote about:
In a June 15, 2020, text, Gonzales allegedly wrote, "I know what I want and won’t stop until I get it.” The relentlessness he allegedly applied with this staffer, pressure to which she claims she did not give in, had also been employed against Santos-Aviles, with tragic results.
As is the case with Swalwell, it's unclear what Gonzales' last day will be. We'll keep you posted.
