8-Year-Old Boy Arrested After Pulling Gun on Teacher

It's one thing for a kid to defend himself from a bully. It's another thing to think that every insult is a matter of life and death, and should result in someone being killed. That's a people problem, not a gun issue, and we need to start thinking about it that way.

MORNING MUSING

I spent the majority of Tuesday offline for a court appearance (as a witness, not a defendant!), so it gave me that interesting experience of being temporarily tuned out while being aware that the news was continuing to news — vigorously. As the meme goes: It do be like that.

Sometimes it's hard to know whether we should look forward with eager anticipation to what the day might bring or with dread. I guess either way, it's almost always interesting — so there's that.

A couple of months ago, one of our astute readers reminded me of Psalm 118:24: This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. I'm sorry that I don't remember which of you it was, and I can't even recall what it was in response to, but I took their suggestion to heart and placed a sticky note with that welcome reminder on top of my Keurig.

I do look at it every day. And it helps me to recenter and remember that whatever the day might bring, we are blessed and lucky.

LIGHTER FARE

I can't decide if this is cute or just awkward...
