We can’t even make jokes anymore!
As someone who proudly purchased two “NeverTrump” t-shirts in the summer of 2016, I, like many conservatives who didn’t vote for either major party candidate, try to be exceedingly fair to Pres. Trump, largely because I know my inclination is to find fault with the man.
But there is a contingency on the right — on this very site — and left who take everything Donald Trump says as 100 percent literal and work from there.
Today was a perfect example. Trump made a reference to Franklin Roosevelt being elected for a fourth term (i.e. 16 years) and then made clear he was joking about the idea.
“The last time I jokingly said that the papers said, “He’s got despotic tendencies!” I’m not looking to do that,” Trump said.
But that didn’t stop some alarmists from tweeting:
“At a Rose Garden event, Trump just asked a Congressman to change “the law” so that he can be president for 16 years.”

It was a joke. It was clearly a joke. Calm down.
