What Is Going On in Austin: Second Explosion in One Morning Rocks City

Following an earlier deadly explosion Monday morning, a second package reportedly exploded in Texas’ capital city of Austin, severely injuring an elderly woman.

This is the second explosion today. The first explosion happened around 6:45 a.m., when a teenager found a package at the front door and took it inside. It exploded as it was being opened, killing the 17-year-old and seriously injuring a woman in the house.

Austin Police say the explosions have marked similarities with a March 2 explosion in which 39-year-old Anthony Stephan House was killed. House’s death was being considered a suspicious death because police hadn’t determined whether or not House had constructed the bomb and accidentally detonated it. As of Monday, police have since reclassified his death as a homicide.

As of Monday afternoon, police have warned area residents to not handle any suspicious, unexpected packages they find on their doorsteps until law enforcement has been called to inspect it.
