Breaking: Senate Confirms Nikki Haley as U.N. Ambassador

The U.S. Senate voted to confirm South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley as Donald Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations on Tuesday.

The final vote was 96-4. The expected Democrats voted against her of Chris Coons, Tom Udall — both of whom voted against her in the Foreign Relations Committee — Martin Heinrich and Independent Bernie Sanders.

Haley’s confirmation marks the fourth nominee to gain approval from the Senate since Donald Trump’s inauguration last Friday.

Republicans have shown frustration with the process since then,

Republicans blasted Democrats earlier, arguing they were holding up non-controversial nominees, including Haley and Elaine Chao, Trump’s pick to lead the Transportation Department.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) told reporters that Democrats “need to get with the program.”

“Our Democratic friends need to get over the fact that the election is over and now we have the responsibility of governing — hopefully, together,” he added. “But instead so far they’ve just chosen to obstruct and foot-drag.”

Republicans argue that Democrats are holding Trump’s nominees to a higher standard than they did President Obama, who got seven nominees cleared on the first day of his 2009 inauguration.

With all due respect, but of course they are. The Democrat’s job right now, if nothing else, is to push back on Republicans. With the makeup of the Senate being as it is right now, Republicans will have little difficulty getting Trump’s nominees through the process.
