Abdul El-Sayed won the Democrat Party primary for the Senate in Michigan, but not by much.
In a contentious race like that one was, it's normal for the winner to try to reach out to the loser's supporters and try to bring them into the fold.
But one of El-Sayed's biggest supporters, Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, instead laid down a curse-laden rant about the idea that El-Sayed had "work to do mending bridges" to reach people.

"You are all unbelievable Islamophobic pieces of sh**," Piker declared.
"Now, you're gonna sit there and be like, well, you know, he really gotta come to me now, like, what are you talking about? Do you want to f**kin win, or not? Lock the f**k in."
El-Sayed's response? Not to condemn Piker or what he said, but to say that while he didn't share it, Piker was "welcome to his perspective." Well, I'm sure that will make the Haley Stevens folks rush right out and vote for El-Sayed. Not.
Even MS NOW puts him on the spot and asks him if he will continue to campaign with Hasan Piker, the guy who also said: "America deserved 9/11." That should have been disqualifying all on its own. But El-Sayed made it worse, ducking the question.

"I’m focused on campaigning in this state," El-Sayed replied. "I’m not as focused on who I’m campaigning with.”
Oh, please. He's not focused on who he's campaigning with? That's such a silly way to deflect that question. So he has no idea who he's campaigning with? Of course he knows. But he's doing it anyway. He used Piker during the primary race, likely thinking that would be helpful on the left.
But now we're on to the general election, and Piker is going to be an anchor that hurts his campaign with any normal American.
Piker has had other Democrats up in arms.

Here you have, you know, a candidate for one of the highest offices in the United States of America, bringing in this very controversial individual to campaign for him. Not only did he bring him in earlier in the campaign, Jake, but he brought him in as his closer here in Michigan.
You think about this, right? Elections are about choices. What is the message that you want to send to your voters, right? And Abdul El- Sayed chose to bring in Hasan Piker, not a Michigander, an outside podcast influencer who once said America deserved September 11th. Just last week, he added a framed picture of the September 12 New York Times front page with the World Trade Towers burning in the background to show off on his Twitch stream. That's who Abdul El-Sayed chose to bring in for his close.
How much do you want to bet that she votes for Mike Rogers?
Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), one of the few other Democrats to call out the left and their extremism, said he dared El-Sayed to keep campaigning with Piker. He even suggested the ad that could be run against El-Sayed.

"If I was a Republican, I'd dump $20 million in ads. He pals around with Hasan Piker, who said America deserved 9/11, and you're gonna try to win a general election?"
Fetterman noted El-Sayed barely won, but the majority of Michigan Democrats picked someone other than him.
Bottom line, El-Sayed has dug himself a hole he can't get out of with Piker. That relationship and El-Sayed's other extremist positions are going to hurt him in the general big time.
