Democrat candidate for Senate in Maine, Graham Platner, has been facing a storm of controversy, everything from the Nazi tattoo to allegations of abusive behavior, and all kinds of vile things in between.
But one of the things that has been so troubling about the response to the stories has been the reaction of many of the Democrats and other people on the left. While you have the rare Democrat politician of principle like Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), who has put Platner on blast, so many of them either are cowardly staying quiet or even fully embracing him, like Rep. Ro Khanna (CA-17)

There's a video of an interview by the NY Sun's Caroline McCaughey with a woman at a town hall for Platner in Portland, Maine. It looked like a lot of the folks at the town hall were older, like this woman. McCaughey asked her about the Nazi tattoo that Platner had gotten years ago, but just covered over late last year. Her response was something else.

“Would an Israeli flag tattoo be a deal breaker?”
“Honestly yeah, because I don’t support genocide.” https://t.co/93SQVwHOXH pic.twitter.com/CKrpQwkmxO
"Somebody said that they talked to somebody who had seen one off those or wore one of those, and it was silver, and it didn't even occur to him that it was the same thing. I think people are making as much of it as they can because they don't have a lot of substance around anything else. And if they did, we'd hear about it, believe me. They are trolling for dirt."
Is she kidding? It sounds like she doesn't have a good grasp of all the vile things that are out there. I think she also seemed to be making the argument that Platner didn't know the meaning of the tattoo.
Then she went over the slide when she was asked what if Platner had an Israeli flag tattoo, would that be a deal breaker?
"For me?" she replied.
"Honestly, yeah...because I don't support genocide. And he doesn't either. And that would show he's being inconsistent. And he's been very consistent about that, straight across the board."
Pro tip? Nazi actions: Actual genocide, trying to wipe out the Jews. Israel: fighting back after being attacked, not a genocide.
But here's what some on the left were putting down, and it was gross.

This might be the worst take so far.

The problem is that there is a significant number of people on the left who will discount these issues about Platner, because they think he agrees with the leftist playbook on things like Israel.
As McCaughey explained, only one person at Platner's rally was concerned about the NY Times story about alleged abuse, with most thinking he had "taken accountability" for his past.
Only one person at the Platner rally told me he was concerned about the allegations made in the NYTimes story. Most people said Platner has taken accountability for his past, PTSD, and that policy matters more.
