Hillary Clinton and her husband are finally going to be testifying in the Epstein matter at the end of this month. Hillary will be on February 26, and Bill the next day.

Grab the popcorn, because that promises to provide some interesting testimony. I'm anticipating a lot of "we don't remember" answers.

But they had to be taken to a contempt vote by the House Oversight Committee after delaying and pontificating for months. The panel voted in a bipartisan way to send it to the full floor for a vote, so the Clintons then knew they had a problem and had to come in.

Then both Hillary and Bill claimed it should be in public. Probably hoping that they could throw performative fits and take up the questioning time. But the House Oversight Committee wouldn't go along with that and said they would make the testimony public after the depositions.

But in a bit of a surprise move, Hillary gave an interview to the BBC, likely trying to set the table for her testimony, putting out the points she wanted to influence the audience beforehand.

Her response was not to fully answer the questions posed by the BBC's Jess Parker, but immediately to accuse the Trump administration of a cover-up. This was despite President Donald Trump banning Epstein from his club, going to the police about him, being the administration that arrested him in 2019, and signing the law that released the files now. There have been no credible allegations against Trump. Indeed, victims like Virginia Giuffre specifically testified that he had not done anything inappropriate.

But of course, Hillary wants to deflect focus.

The former first lady was asked if she regretted the links they had to Epstein and Maxwell. She wouldn't even do that. Her response? She unbelievably claimed, "We have no links," saying Bill took "some rides" on Epstein's plane for his charitable work. Her face was something else.

She said that she didn't recall ever meeting Epstein. She claimed she met Ghislaine Maxwell on a "few occasions." In response to Parker's question about Maxwell's connection to the Clinton Global Initiative, she claimed that "thousands of people go to the Clinton Global Initiative."

Hmm. What about the 17 visits that Epstein took to the Clinton White House that we've reported on? Can she and/or Bill explain those?

What other contacts besides the flights did they have? What was Ghislaine Maxwell doing at Chelsea's wedding in 2010, after Epstein's conviction?

Virginia Giuffre and Doug Band, Clinton's former body man, both claimed that Bill went to Epstein's island. Giuffre said she didn't see any improper behavior, and Bill denies that he went at all. Band also said that after his relationship with Clinton went south. Bill Clinton has not been credibly accused of any wrongdoing by any of the victims.

Hillary claimed thousands of people go to the Clinton Global Initiative. But that wasn't the issue here. The issue was Maxwell receiving special recognition from the CGI in 2013, long after Epstein's conviction, and the connection being deeper than Hillary is saying.

Maxwell claimed to Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche under questioning that she was "very central" to the start-up of the CGI and that Epstein had been "very enthusiastic" about her involvement in the initiative.

"[Epstein] supported me to help them, but then I think he may have tried to use that to insert himself in some way, that would not have surprised me at all," Maxwell added of her work with the Clinton Global Initiative.

Hillary claims she was treated unfairly by not being allowed to just submit a statement, as some of the witnesses did. But those people weren't acquainted with Epstein and Maxwell. It's important to be able to cross-examine her and Bill on the questions.

Clinton was also asked by the interviewer about those pictures of Bill in the swimming pool with Ghislaine Maxwell and a redacted person, in a hot tub picture with a redacted person, and on Epstein's plane with redacted people. She said she absolutely knows the context of the pictures.

She claimed the pictures were from the philanthropic trips. What she doesn't do is explain who the redacted people were and what the redacted person was doing in that hot tub with Bill.

Hillary claimed she'd repeatedly called for the release of the files. Funny, I don't recall that before this year. She also warned that, although she said she would testify behind closed doors, they weren't going to like what she had to say, indicating she was going to take up time attacking the Trump administration.

So hopefully, the Committee knows that's coming, and they don't let her get away with that performative nonsense. But it promises to be a barnburner.
