President Donald Trump pushes hard in the interests of national security, and he isn't always diplomatic when he sees what he thinks is stupidity.
In part, that's because our allies sometimes make moves that are counterproductive to their security and our interests.
Back in 2018, Trump scolded the Germans about still getting oil from Russia. Why are we spending our money to protect you from the Russians, Trump said in his blunt way, when you're helping them and putting yourself at risk from an energy perspective through that relationship? He was right, of course.
I wrote about the incredibly stupid move that the U.K. is about to make with regard to the Chagos Islands, where we have a vitally important shared military base with them. Not only is the U.K. currently planning on giving the territory to another island, Mauritius (so much for the self-determination for the Chagossians), but they're going to pay Mauritius money to be able to rent our own base. Oh, and Mauritius is under heavy Chinese influence. One of the most important roles of our military base on Diego Garcia is to help hold China in check. So how is that even going to work once they decide they don't want to honor our lease?

So Trump is having to deal with people who don't look out for their own self-interest, but that failure also hurts us and our own national security.
Trump was in Davos on Wednesday, talking with the Europeans. As our sister site Twitchy observed, French President Emmanuel Macron was making unwise comments about wanting more Chinese investment in Europe.
🚨 JUST IN: French President Emmanuel Macron begs for more Chinese investment in Europe
— Eric Daugherty (@EricLDaugh) January 20, 2026
"China is welcome. What we need is more Chinese direct investment in Europe!"
STOP RELYING ON CHINA!
This is why Europe is WEAK and Trump is strong. Pathetic. pic.twitter.com/kYTtW9VcsL
Why would you encourage that and put yourself at risk? It's the German oil story all over again, only this time it's China.
Trump hit on some of that, talking about the European addiction to unwise energy moves like windmills bought from China.
🚨 BREAKING: President Trump is CALLING OUT the "stupid people" who support wind energy in Davos
— Eric Daugherty (@EricLDaugh) January 21, 2026
"China is smart. They make windmills, sell 'em for a fortune, and sell 'em to the STUPID PEOPLE that buy them!" 🤣
"Windmills all over Europe, all over the place, and they are… pic.twitter.com/6LZEHcPkKW
Windmills all over Europe, all over the place, and they are LOSERS. One thing I've learned: the more windmills a country has, the more money that country LOSES... CHINA makes almost all the windmills, and yet I haven't been able to find any wind farms in China!
But he made his greater point - why are you guys self-immolating with these bad choices and cozying up to the CCP?
But he wasn't done yet, as he chided Macron publicly, saying he turned around on tariffs, with a little persuasion.
🚨 LMFAO!!! President Trump just ROASTED Emmanuel Macron LIVE in Davos, right in front of him!
— Gunther Eagleman™ (@GuntherEagleman) January 21, 2026
“I said, here’s the story, Emmanuel, you’re gonna do it and you’re gonna do it FAST. If you don’t, I put 25% tariffs on you and 100% on your wines and champagnes! ‘No, no, Donald, I… pic.twitter.com/LIN2nk4ogL
‘No, no, Donald, I will do it!’ TOOK ME 3 MINUTES!
That was humorous.
He also had a little fun with Macron over wearing his sunglasses indoors. That's been the big question in Davos: why was he trying to cover up with the glasses?

The official story was that he had a burst blood vessel in his eye, but, of course, folks were speculating other things.
Trump was in full Trump-mode, having fun with them, but pushing them to get things done.
It sounds like he may have found the way now with the latest report of a framework of a deal on Greenland.
