Update - 12:58 PM Eastern
The latest reports indicate that a suspect was disarmed relatively quickly and is in custody.
Up to five people have been injured, but thus far, no fatalities have been reported.
The base remains on lockdown.

There appears to be an active shooter situation at the Fort Stewart military base.
Local reports are characterizing it as such.

There are reports of casualties according to a Fort Stewart Facebook page, but those have not been confirmed yet.

According to Reuters:
"The installation was locked down at 11:04 a.m. and law enforcement is on the scene," it said, adding the incident took place in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area.
