We've been seeing signs that Elon Musk was beginning to regret his remarks and his dustup with President Donald Trump.
Musk had already deleted the more inflammatory posts he made against Trump.

The Day After - What's Happening With President Trump and Elon Musk Today?
Since the Los Angeles anti-ICE riots broke out, he's been making supportive retweets for Trump, condemning the riots. I think it reminded him of those important issues and some of the reasons he supported Trump, to begin with, including because he's so concerned about illegal immigration and the way the Democrats have handled it.

Then on Monday, Trump put down some of the rumors, and it looked like he was taking a step toward Elon, saying he wished Elon "very well." Musk responded positively to that.

Then, finally, early Wednesday morning, Musk went there and apologized. "I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week, " he said. "They went too far." Simple, straightforward.
I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.

Yes, indeed, they did go too far.
Vice President JD Vance had said on Thursday in an interview with podcaster Theo Von that he thought if Elon just chilled for a few days, "everything would be fine."
Elon gave so much to the country: buying X, his support of Trump, and what he did with DOGE. He put everything on the line, including his business and his wealth. In return, Trump embraced him, praised his efforts, and even let him into his "family," having him to Mar-a-Lago and the White House. I think they were truly fond of each other.
Elon also posted about some of that loss to his fortune on Tuesday, and said it was "worth it."

Now, I guess if there's a next move, it would be for Trump to decide if he wants to talk to him and forgive him. Given what was said, I could understand if he didn't want to because some of that might be hard to get past. Trump has shown he has a big heart, and he has forgiven people who have said some pretty bad things about him.
But I think even if all that happens is Elon buries the hatchet, it's better for the country going forward. They both have a lot of common purposes that they were working for. Those purposes were in the best interests of the country and the American people. We need everyone to be on the same side to get things done. Even if Musk is no longer involved at the White House, it would be good to be supportive outside of government.
On X, most of the people responding were positive about it, though some still were understandably mad, and the left was angry that Musk was taking things back, so that was the funniest reaction.
For those looking for a de-escalation/ reconciliation, this would be a big step: https://t.co/tKmHo1fiBC
