House Speaker Mike Johnson appeared on CNN with Jake Tapper on Sunday and called for the Senate to pass the "Big Beautiful Bill" that Johnson pushed through the House.

Johnson said this was the largest cut in spending in perhaps 30 years, "and arguably of all time," saying they were cutting $1.5 trillion.

Johnson torpedoed the Democratic narrative about cutting Medicaid, saying that wasn't happening: "There's a lot of misinformation out there."

What they were doing, he said, was ensuring there wasn't fraud, that it would not be going to illegal aliens and to able-bodied individuals who it wasn't supposed to be for.

You know that is going to make Democrats lose their minds, but cutting fraud, waste, and abuse isn't "cutting" -- indeed, it's ensuring that the program remains viable for the people who do qualify for it. Medicaid isn't intended for the 1.4 million illegal aliens who are on it, Johnson noted; it's supposed to be for our citizens who need it.  "They are protected in what we are doing because we are preserving the resources for those who need it most," Johnson explained. He also said they were addressing 4.8 million able-bodied individuals on Medicaid who were choosing not to work, which was fraud. "They are cheating the system," he said of those people. "When you root out those kinds of abuses, you save the resources that are so desperately needed by the people who deserve it and need it most."

Indeed, but Democrats aren't concentrated on that, they don't believe in saving money to protect programs or cutting off payments to illegal aliens.

Johnson told Tapper and then Shannon Bream on Fox News that the estimates by the CBO weren't taking into account the pro-growth aspects of the bill.

"They're assuming a historically low growth rate... The elements of the Big Beautiful Bill — the reason we're so excited — is because it will be jet fuel to the U.S. economy," Johnson declared. He pointed out how in the first Trump term, the same ideas energized the economy. He said this would foster a pro-growth economy again, because they cut taxes and regulations as they did before.
