More Drama in El Salvador As Chris Van Hollen Continues His Grandstanding Over Abrego Garcia

You might have thought that Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) would be back by now after he got rejected from seeing or talking with El Salvadoran national Kilmar Abrego Garcia in El Salvador.

That would have been smart. But he appears to still be there and still grandstanding. After being told bluntly by the Central American nation's vice president that the senator wasn't going to be able to get in to see Garcia at CECOT,  it looks like Van Hollen decided to go there anyway to try to get in.

Hoo Boy: Here's How That Grandstanding Trip to El Salvador Went for Chris Van Hollen

It didn't go well. He says he was stopped by soldiers.

Van Hollen was not representing the Trump administration. In fact, he was attacking it while in a foreign country. He was asking about a foreign national, someone who isn't an American citizen. I'm not sure why he thought the officials would give him the time of day.

Now,Van Hollen claims that more Democrats will be jumping on the fail train and going to El Salvador. As my colleague Becky Noble reported, aides believed the Van Hollen trip was paid for by taxpayers. Further, Democrats are asking to have a formal CODEL (congressional delegation) approved. That means, it would be fully funded by the American taxpayers.

The Democrats really are losing their minds over this.

This picture taken from the senator's presser perhaps says it all.

It looks like a symbol of how far out on a limb he is at this point.

How much time has Van Hollen devoted to all this when he's supposed to be working for the actual citizens of Maryland? Did he spend taxpayer money on this failed effort? And he's doing all this while attacking the Trump administration from a foreign country and interfering with foreign policy.

The NY Post is now reporting that a conservative watchdog group, American Accountability Foundation, has asked Republican Senate Majority Leader John Thune and the Senate Ethics Committee for an ethics probe over Van Hollen's actions, including looking into questions regarding the Logan Act.

Looks like the Democrats just can't stop digging that hole deeper.
