Back in March, I reported about the coming meeting between Bill Maher and President Donald Trump, that he was about to have his mind blown when Trump turned out to be far different than what he thought.
Oh, to be a fly on the wall at that dinner. The thing about a meeting is that he will find, as so many do when they actually open themselves up to meeting him in person, that Trump isn't the ogre that the Democrats make him out to be. He really is funny and concerned about making the U.S. better, whether the left gets it or not. It's why you see even Barack Obama and Joe Biden smiling and/or laughing and having a good time with him when they meet with him. Even they can't keep up their "Hitler" narrative in Trump's presence...I think once he sees Trump's humanity a bit, it's going to be a big shift for him, and he's going to end up laughing with him over ridiculous things.
Indeed, as my colleague Rusty Weiss reported earlier, that's exactly what happened.

Bill Maher Dishes on His Meeting With ‘Gracious’ President and One Hilarious Thing Trump Did
Friday on his "Real Time" show, Bill Maher finally detailed his take on his dinner with President Donald Trump. Rusty has the whole take, but here's one of the most interesting parts where Maher admits his mind was, in fact, blown.

Maher basically indicated he didn't care that people might object or criticize the meeting.
But then Washington Post journalist Josh Rogin's reaction on the panel was exactly what Maher was talking about, giving the left-wing response to the effort. Rogin tried to downplay the meeting, saying too much had been made of it.
"Counterpoint?" he said. "I think you've fallen into the trap, and I think I represent 99% of the internet when I say this: You've played the game of proximity is principle...Maybe he wasn't there in good faith."
He pandered, saying he was a fan of Bill's.
Bill Maher panelist openly triggered by his meeting with Trump:

Josh Rogin: "Counterpoint: But I think you've fallen into the trap and I think I represent 99% of the internet when I say this:
You've played the game of proximity is principle. Maybe he wasn't there in good faith."… pic.twitter.com/ILkfiUBwh7
That was completely presumptuous. Rogin doesn't represent 99 percent of anything. Most people I've seen think it's a good thing, even if all it did was open up Maher's eyes a little.
Maher wasn't buying Rogin's take and told him he didn't have to "patronize" him, "Not everyone has to like it...What is the alternative?"
Rogin then claimed this was a "PR stunt" that all "Americans know" and that Maher was a "prop in his PR stunt."
He's basically trying to tell Maher you really didn't experience what you think you experienced, don't let go of that animosity toward Trump even a little bit. And this is supposed to be an "objective" reporter. What a window into his mind. He's telling on his own mind, not Trump's.
The problem with this ridiculous argument? Trump is the man Maher met, and he doesn't need to convince Maher; he already convinced 77 million people to vote for him. He doesn't need a "PR stunt," and he basically was dragged into it by Kid Rock. He agreed to it for the same reason Maher did -- talking may be a positive thing. So this argument doesn't align with the facts. This is so much of what is wrong with the left.
Panel guest Piers Morgan thought the argument was silly, and Maher himself mocked Rogin, saying the fact that he started his "rant" referring to the "internet" showed he took his cues from the internet.
"Good luck," he snarked dismissively. "The internet is a cesspool that just wants to fight."
That was a great smackdown. No, Josh, you don't represent most people, and good on Bill for shutting down that pretentiousness.
