As we previously reported, Democrats tried to take a pot shot at Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth by dropping a letter attacking the cost of the improvements that the Department of Defense allocated for the house in which he was going to live.
Fox's national security correspondent at the Pentagon, Jennifer Griffin posted the letter, saying:
Dems on House Appropriations Committee ask why Sec Hegseth needs $137,297 for home repairs/paint for government residence, in light of DOGE efforts to save tax payer money?
But as Hegseth responded, the money and improvements weren't requested by him:
Fake News of the Day (not surprising from Democrats & @JenGriffinFNC; same thing)

Any/all house repairs were going to happen no matter who was moving in—and were all initiated by DoD.
But Dems/Jen don’t care about facts; they’re just Trump haters. https://t.co/vpaUqwTkru

Now, the AP is confirming what Hegseth said about the housing:
[T]he Army undertook the repairs on its own since the more than 100-year-old home had sat vacant for a year and needed security upgrades. [....]
The Army chose the home on Fort McNair for Hegseth based on what was available, and Hegseth didn’t seek the repairs, some of which are needed to bolster safety for the defense secretary, who is sixth in the line of succession, said the official, who was not authorized to discuss details of Hegseth’s housing and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. [....]
In a statement, the Army said it “performs routine maintenance and repairs to all residences between tenants to meet occupancy standards, regardless of rank and position. Historic homes typically have higher costs due to their size and the intricate details associated with the era they were constructed.”
It wouldn't take a lot for a reporter to figure that out -- if you went beyond just posting what the Democrats were saying. Hey, even the AP managed to do it, so how hard could it be after all? Plus, when Griffin posted about the Democrats' letter, she also added in her own thoughts about DOGE, which the Democrats didn't even mention in their letter. She wasn't just reporting on the letter but inserting opinion, whether it was relevant or not.
Hegseth took his former colleague to the woodshed over it, dropping the AP receipts, and chiding her about her post.
Hey @JenGriffinFNC, looks like @AP did your reporting for you. Better luck next time! https://t.co/JglrhfO2SN pic.twitter.com/F3YBlZEsc4

Oof, now that's got to smart when Hegseth is using the AP to school you.
Obviously, Hegseth thinks that Griffin isn't going to be giving the Trump team a fair shot, so he's just going to call her out on it. If she's going to be the main Fox correspondent at the Pentagon in the future, expect some more fireworks, as Hegseth doesn't sound like he's going to hold back when she says something that he thinks is wrong.
