There's always a big question when it comes to who is the silliest Democrat in Congress because there are so many possibilities from which to choose.
We've seen a lot of Democrats weighing in with ridiculous comments, particularly this week as they freak out over DOGE starting to review the finances of the executive branch agencies.
But in a week of truly bad comments from Democrats, Rep. Jared Huffman (D-CA) revealed that he belongs right at the top.
Of all things to attack, on Thursday, Huffman attacked President Donald Trump attending the National Prayer Breakfast that was being held in the Capitol.
Huffman said he was going to the event to protest it. Huffman claimed that "events like this" will lead to a creepy, dystopic theocracy. He also stated that having the event in the Capitol is a MAGA "violation of Church-State separation."
Speaker Johnson’s National Prayer Breakfast is yet another example of MAGA Republicans taking a sledgehammer to the wall between church and state. Walk with me to protest this morning… pic.twitter.com/rGGGqznb8p

He claimed it was being done in cooperation with the "Fellowship Foundation" which he termed a "radical and extremist group."
Then there he was in the Capitol, railing again about "separation of Church and State," and claiming the Statutory Hall had been "hijacked" and "turned into a Church service" with Trump presiding over the National Prayer Breakfast.
Dem Rep. Jared Huffman says statuary hall was “hijacked” for the National Prayer Breakfast—a tradition since 1953 with Obama & Biden speaking.

No wonder only 31% of voters favor Democrats. pic.twitter.com/BljRdRcmbP
He added that the Founders were "rolling in their graves," then said they might have to "burn sage for months" as a result.
Now, there are more than a few problems here.
The first is that Trump didn't invent the National Prayer Breakfast. It's been in existence since 1953; the president and members of Congress get together to pray for each other and the country. Barack Obama and Joe Biden have both attended the event, as have other Democratic leaders. Here's Biden speaking at it in 2024, saying we needed to "remember who the hell we are."

So unless Huffman is calling Obama and Biden, and all the other people since 1953 who were involved, "MAGA," this is seriously unhinged take. Huffman got smacked with a Community Note for that.
Then just factually, there are issues. The foundation he mentioned was not in charge of the event in the Capitol, although they had been involved in prior years. Indeed, the event on Thursday was run by the National Prayer Breakfast Foundation, which is a bipartisan group with honorary co-chairs Sen. Maggie Hasan (D-NH) and Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS), with a Democrat, , Heidi Heitkamp, as chair of the Foundation. The event was moved from a hotel to the Capitol in 2023, in part because of Democrat efforts to make it smaller and more controlled, as my Townhall colleague Rebecca Downs reported. It wasn't because of Trump.
The event didn't just involve Trump praying, but both Democrats and Republicans, and prayers from a variety of religions including Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. That's the event Huffman insulted by suggesting they were going to need to "burn sage" -- something you do to cleanse an area -- and that's pretty disgraceful.
Then finally, "separation of Church and State." That's not in the Constitution; what is in the Constitution is no "establishment" of religion. It doesn't mean you can't pray in public in Congress. Indeed, there were church services (of various denominations and not mandatory) in the Capitol that founders like Thomas Jefferson attended.
Even liberal media folks like Chris Cillizza called this out.
This is the dumbest thing ever. This is a bipartisan event that past Democratic presidents have attended and spoken at.

Democrats lost badly in November. They have an incredibly unfavorable rating in recent polling, while the majority of American public now feels good about the direction of the country under Trump.

So, this is what Democrats want to project at this point, with all that? They are completely lost.
