Watching President Donald Trump operate in North Carolina and California in response to disasters makes the fact that we haven't had a leader for the last four years so clear. Instead of someone sleepwalking through events or reading off a script, you now have a leader who is engaged, asking questions and expressing himself like a normal person, and truly responding with transparency to the press. Pres. Trump suggests and brings in answers. That's the way it's supposed to be when you have a real person in charge--and not governance by unelected officials behind the scenes.
Trump didn't just meet with officials on Friday, he also engaged with the people who were affected. When he was in North Carolina, he didn't just talk, he let the victims of the hurricane talk; he even adjusted the mic for one woman. He literally gave them a voice when they haven't truly been listened to for months.
I don't want to hear EVER AGAIN that the democrats care about "working people"

President Trump just gave the people of Western North Carolina a giant microphone to tell their stories
He hugged them. He listened to them. He asked questionspic.twitter.com/REGu1SzW6S
So much debris hasn't been cleared there, and people still haven't gotten needed help. For them, as this poor lady says, "It's still Sept. 27."
I am very moved by this. Being seen and heard is a deep human need. pic.twitter.com/p4uWu01IQ6

Then when he went to Los Angeles, he also met with victims of the fire. Melania had a sweet moment with one fire victim.

While Trump had a lot of criticism for the Democratic officials who had failed Californians, he had praise for the firefighters who had given their all under very difficult circumstances. The firefighters cheered and clapped, even chanting "USA, USA" to welcome him. They also gave him a "47" fire helmet.

One firefighter even showed how much he appreciated Trump. When the president came down the line shaking firefighters' hands, he said "Thank you for saving America, Mr. President."

Brave guy, given the Democratic control of things. He's speaking for so many of us.

But the response shows that there are people pushing for a change in both states--and who want common sense--who see the change that Trump is bringing and how much better it is. And he's showing how much he appreciates their efforts. What a great thing to finally witness true leadership.
