Whoops: What the Heck Did Hakeem Jeffries Just Say After the Speaker Vote?

The battle over the Speaker vote was actually resolved perhaps more quickly than people anticipated, with Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) winning on the first vote, despite the reservations of some Republicans.

But the remarks by the House Democratic Leader, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), also got some attention — of the "whoops, what did he just say" variety.

"We will fart hard...fight hard...for the freedom to vote," Jeffries said.

Um, okay. That was pretty funny. That's one that's likely going to get memed all over the place.

But on the full statement, what the heck is he talking about? Who is being denied the right to vote? You can see the larger comment doesn't make any sense either.

But Jeffries wasn't done yet with the false comments. He then tried to do an Obama imitation (notice that finger-pointing thing that Barack Obama used to do), calling on people to come together. In the next breath, he attacked Republicans, saying, "There are no  election deniers on our side of the aisle."

He was responding to a lot of cheering for President-elect Donald Trump winning the election.

"One should love America when you win and when you lose," he declared.

Not only have there been a lot of "election deniers" on the Democrat side of the aisle going back to 2000, Hakeem Jeffries has himself been one of them, as we've reported in the past, and many called him out on the lie.

So was he "not loving America" when he was denying that Trump won the first time? It's pretty hypocritical and quite false for Jeffries to push this lie. But the truth for the Democrats seems to shift to be whatever they think helps their political positions.
