It's pretty astonishing that an outcry from the people, highlighted by President-elect Trump, Elon Musk, and Vivek Ramaswamy stopped the monstrous,1,500-page continuing resolution in Congress.
Democrats of course threw a fit, trying to argue they needed to push it through for "disaster relief."
Here's Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA).
Hard to imagine anything more heartless than shutting down the government and leaving disaster victims out in the cold just days before Christmas. Absolutely outrageous this is even a possibility.

But they haven't done anything to help the people who are still suffering in North Carolina. And all they have to do to resolve that is have a clean bill without all the pork. So, the fault was on them and anyone who went along with this, as Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) said.
No, sir

The offenders here are those who write 1,500-page spending bills in secret & spring them on their colleagues days before Christmas with no time to debate or even read them
And then they accuse anyone who cries foul of trying to cause a government shutdown! https://t.co/anF8fy0ge3
That's the thing. How can anyone vote for a 1,500-page bill, when they couldn't possibly read it all before they were called on to vote? Yet, they've done this time and time again in Congress.
It's why there's no real examination of changing anything. It's why and how people are able to keep slipping in monstrous pork, and things that we the people don't want, in there. And then we're the bad guys for objecting to the severely screwed up process? I think not.
That's why Musk and Ramaswamy were so against it -- it damages their DOGE efforts even before they come in, if they are then saddled with even more pork to unspool. And what was great about the people speaking out on X about it over the past day was that finally, what the people want was being heard. The GOP agreed to a Plan B continuing resolution that was much cleaner and left out the pork Vivek and others were talking about.

Here was a very tangible result. Musk showed how significant it was, in a powerful picture.
This shows how much your voice matters!

And having a President like @realDonaldTrump means that your voice is finally heard. https://t.co/0a7QDJx9zt
Shorter = better. This bill is only 116 pages, instead of 1,500+ pages. Took a LOT less time to read. Glad to see the following garbage from yesterday’s bill removed in the current version:
— Vivek Ramaswamy (@VivekGRamaswamy) December 19, 2024
- Congressional pay raise/health benefits
- 17 miscellaneous commerce bills
- Random new… https://t.co/pbzNJYeOuO
Now the question is what the reaction will be; the shoe is on the foot of the Democrats. If they don't vote for it, they're the ones who won't vote for a cleaner bill. But the GOP needs to finally start putting their foot down like this to make some real change.
