A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Earthquake

My colleague Becca Lower reported on the earthquake in the New York/New Jersey area earlier, and there was some pretty big shaking for an area that isn't used to it. My family members who live not far from the epicenter said that they really felt the rolling, which for people in New Jersey is very unusual. They're still having some aftershocks, but as Becca explained, no one was seriously hurt and there was no significant damage.

I wanted to note some of the funny and crazy takes from the day, since people weren't used to the experience of having an earthquake that they actually felt.

I think we have to start off with the Yankees' Aaron Judge, who was asked if he felt the earthquake before Friday's game. He said he did, but then he had a good time trying to avoid the question of what he was doing when he felt it.

"That's definitely a no comment," someone said in his defense.

"We good? We good?" Judge responded while laughing.

PIX 11 speculated.

The Empire State Building took it in the spirit of fun.

Some noted the significant damage.

That last one looks like any other day in NYC.

Some had fun combining Chris Christie and earthquake memes, including former NJ state Sen. Loretta Weinberg.

But as for the funniest worst take, it may be a tight race between Green Party U.S. Senate candidate Christina Amira Khalil and an Emmy-winning NBC reporter, Linda Guadino.

Khalil earned a blunt Community Note that it was about the fault line, not the climate.

NJ has experienced earthquakes, but usually smaller ones that you don't really feel.

Then there was this coincidence that many noted.
