Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley came in third in the Iowa caucuses. She was second in New Hampshire, after everyone else had dropped out. But she's still 30 points down in her home state of South Carolina to former President Donald Trump.
She has to figure out some way to bring in voters. Not every primary is going to be New Hampshire, with so many undeclared voters voting; If she does badly in South Carolina, she may be effectively done, even if she stays in the race.
But the tactic that she tried the other day — posting alleged fan mail — did not go over well, when people pointed out that the email she posted hadn't been sent, that it had no address and no subject. People questioned the validity of the letter. Then people called out the other letter for being written in digital font, not a handwritten letter from a person. Her post got over 4 million views but it wasn't good for her, when most of those people were accusing her of posting fake letters.

Americans want a choice in this election, not a rerun.

I’m overwhelmed by all of the kind words! We’ll keep working hard to make you proud. pic.twitter.com/0J43sSakD0
Now, you would think that would be an interesting media story, but it's also interesting to note that, apart from a couple of other conservative sites, I don't think anyone else covered it.
It's also not a good sign when you have to post such things to show support, if you can't put forward things that won't generate such questions.
But Haley apparently isn't giving up on this effort. She's trying again with new letters, and people still have questions—although this time, the person appears to have hit "send" on the email.
I don’t listen to the political elites who want to coronate Donald Trump – I listen to the voters. And they want a choice in this election. Thank you for your support, I’ll keep working hard to make you proud! pic.twitter.com/1nuMv8lszc

"I don’t listen to the political elites who want to coronate Donald Trump – I listen to the voters," she tweeted.
"And they want a choice in this election. Thank you for your support, I’ll keep working hard to make you proud!"
But the response was not good.
Some questioned her trying to cast Trump as a "political elite." Others said she was part of the political elite.
Some noted that the voters were speaking in Iowa, New Hampshire, and on X. Many continued to question whether the letters were real letters from Republican supporters.
"RightGlockMom" noted how the letter on the right was from a Washington Post reader, not something that you will find from conservatives, and she laughed about why Haley would provide such a letter.
You provided a letter from a WaPo reader? 😂

The WaPo reader letter also spoke about it being time for a woman president, and questioned whether women were equal in this country, even seeming to make a reference to equal pay for women in a way that conservatives generally would not. And it had a line about 'the insurrection.'
What's the over-under that letter writer Tim is a registered Democrat?
— Walt Wang (@waltywang) February 3, 2024
Tim:
1. Cites the Washington Post for dislike of Trump
2. Has a line in about "the insurrection"
3. Appears to endorse an affirmative action POTUS selection
4. Ends with a line about "equal pay" for women https://t.co/RR1iuj1wQ3
I really can't begin to grasp how her team thinks this makes her relatable? Seriously this is a Biden move and it's just as cringy when he does it! If you're going to run a campaign run it, don't copy anyone especially Biden! https://t.co/kbITnys84v

I'm thinking this do-over effort probably didn't work.
