CONFIRMED: House Democrat Being Criminally Investigated Is 'Squad' Member Cori Bush
According to Punchbowl News, which broke the original story, the DOJ has subpoenaed the House Sergeant at Arms for the records relating to the misspending of federal security money.
Here's Fox's report, noting that she spent more than $700,000 on private security.
This was at the same time she was advocating for defunding the police. She paid part of that money to her now-husband - $62,000 -- according to the report.
Here's what Cori Bush said about the questions that were raised at the time about her hypocrisy in paying so much for private security, and how she thought she deserved protection while she wanted to defund the police. This is the kind of person we are talking about here. She's definitely something else with the arrogance here.
"I'm going to make sure that I have security," Bush said, claiming she had faced death threats.
"I have too much work to do. There are too many people who need help right now for me to allow that. So if I end up spending $200,000, if I spend $10 more dollars on it, you know what? I get to be here to do the work. So suck it up! And defunding the police has to happen. We need to defund the police and put the money into social safety nets because we're trying to save lives."
There's understandably a lot of reaction coming in on the news, and many pointing out how hypocritical this was from Bush and how they hope the feds are doing a real investigation, although some had doubts given it's Joe Biden's DOJ. They may announce it to act like they're doing something, then some months from now they'll say, sorry, nothing here. I wouldn't bet on her facing any accountability until I see it. But for now, even though it's delayed, it's good news that they are investigating.
That's what she's said in the past.
So what did she say when she was approached and asked about the investigation?
I asked Cori Bush about the investigation directly last night. She repeatedly declined to comment and reprimanded me for approaching her as she had a toothache. https://t.co/Vskods0WYE

Can we laugh now? She was so bold about taking away our police, but now that she's reportedly under investigation, she has a toothache and nothing to say. Isn't that so typical that she's angry that anyone even dares to ask her about this? She really takes the cake.
The nerve.

Saying “I have a toothache” is not on the list of effective bridge statements. 🤣 https://t.co/fwI8mrIra5
