Biden in Israel: Bad Comments, Zoning Out, and Confusing Wars

Joe Biden arrived in Israel to lend the country support in its war with Hamas.

In the middle of chaos erupting across the region, people are marching on U.S. and Israeli embassies. According to Fox, they set a guard tower on fire at the U.S. Embassy in Beirut.

Biden was also having to field questions about the Gaza hospital explosion. As we reported, now in the light of day, there was more evidence showing it wasn't Israel and questions about the number of people claimed killed.  Meanwhile, the media immediately spread a lot of misinformation based on Hamas' claims, without checking on the facts.

But when Biden made some perfunctory comments about that, he had issues. He tried to tell a story about something that Secretary of State Antony Blinken had written for him in the past, but he blanked out right in the middle of the sentence and embarrassingly couldn't remember what he was trying to say. He then said that the evidence indicated it was the "other team." As he said that, he was reading from notes, even for such a short comment and he still had problems.

You can see the reading of the notes more clearly in this video.

As I noted calling them the "other team" rather than Hamas and the terrorists they are was a bit concerning. Even with notes, he couldn't quite get it right.

After his photo op with Netanyahu, Biden then made some comments to reporters and met with some of the victims of the attack on Israel and first responders.

He explained that he thought that Israel wasn't behind the hospital explosion because of evidence provided by the Defense Department.

But he also told a whopper that he's told in the past, claiming that he visited with Golda Meir before the Six-Day War.

“I remember the first time that I, that I was in Israel with Golda Meir just before the Six-Day War," Biden said. "And she was telling me how terrible everything was." He said she asked him if he "‘would you like a photograph?” and went on to tell his story about her comments.

The problem? The Six-Day War was in 1967 when Biden was still in school before he became a Senator in 1973. He didn't meet Meir until 1973, five weeks before the Yom Kippur War. He got that war wrong, giving her disinformation from Egypt that they were not likely to attack. He got that wrong and appears confused over the wars.

The pool report did not note this problem with his comments. They didn't even include the Six-Day War reference. So either they were running cover for Biden or whoever was on duty didn't understand what he was saying.

Then Biden made more formal remarks. During those remarks, he said that they would be trying to provide $100 million more funding for humanitarian aid for Gaza, which is going to raise more concerns about whether that is funding Hamas.

He spoke about the "enormous loss of life" at the Gaza hospital without seeming to have caught up to the questions about the number who were killed there. He also zoned out again and completely blanked on the name of the guy he said was at his meeting with Golda Meir.

He then hobbled off the stage, looking very old.

Editor's Note: A previous version of this article indicated President Biden announced more funding for Israel rather than for humanitarian aid for Gaza. We apologize to our readers for the error.
