As we reported, musician Garth Brooks went all-in on the woke when he attacked people for boycotting Bud Light over the company’s endorsement of Dylan Mulvaney’s “365 Days of Being a Girl.”
Brooks stepped into the controversy by saying that he would be selling Bud Light at his new bar that’s about to open — Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky Tonk in Nashville. He used a nasty term to refer to boycotters.
I want it to be a place you feel safe in, I want it to be a place where you feel like there are manners and people like one another. And yes, we’re going to serve every brand of beer. We just are. It’s not our decision to make.
Our thing is this: If you [are let] into this house, love one another. If you’re an a**hole, there are plenty of other places on lower Broadway [in Nashville].
The absolute irony of that statement from Brooks. He wants everyone to “love one another” but people who might disagree with him and not be in favor of endorsing someone who mocks women and pretends to be a little girl, he calls a nasty nasty name. Not exactly showing the love there, Garth. Some inclusiveness there. Also not exactly smart to kick the boycotters in the teeth, since some of them may have been fans.
Now it sounds like he’s backpedaling a bit, trying to clean up his words a bit and do a little damage control. I’m guessing the backlash hit even him.
He told NBC on Monday that the comments caused “quite a little bit of a stir.”
Everybody’s got their opinions. But inclusiveness is always going to be me. I think diversity is the answer to the problems that are here and the answer to the problems that are coming. So I love diversity. All inclusive, so all are welcome. I understand that might not be other people’s opinions, but that’s OK, man…So, here’s the deal, man, if you want to come to Friends in Low Places, come in. But come in with love, come in with tolerance, patience. Come in with an open mind, and it’s cool. And if you’re one of those people that just can’t do that, I get it. If you ever are one of those people that want to try, come.
But he wasn’t being inclusive with his bar, and it’s a little too late to try to clean it up now and claim, “I get it.” No, he doesn’t. That’s why he made such a bad comment. He just embraced the latest liberal “thing” without even caring what that might include.
This effort is pretty funny. Notice what he doesn’t say in that effort to backpedal? “I’m sorry I called a lot of you that nasty name. I’m sorry I didn’t bother to discover or even ask why this might be bothering you.” He wants to be forgiven, yet he doesn’t want to do the work to get forgiveness. He wants to play down the middle and appeal to bother sides of the issue. But when you try to stand in the middle of the road, you get squished like a grape. I’m fairly certain that such backpedaling is not going to cut it with the American people he insulted.
