Sen. John Kennedy Delivers an Epic Grilling of Climate Witness That Exposes the Left's Delusion

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) does not hold back what he thinks and he seems to take his obligation to inform the American people seriously, as we saw the other day with his comments after a briefing about the “objects” that were shot down over the U.S. and Canada last weekend.

It’s truly a thing of beauty watching Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) grilling people in the Senate. Somehow he always seems to cut right through the bull to the heart of the matter. If a witness is trying to skirt around the issue or doesn’t know what they are talking about, he’s not going to let them get away with it. We saw during a hearing for one of Joe Biden’s judicial nominees, how he decimated the candidate by just asking a simple question about what’s in the Constitution: What do Articles II and V pertain to? She didn’t know. Sort of an important thing for someone who wants to be a federal judge to know the basic elements of the Constitution.

On Wednesday, Kennedy was grilling Dr. Robert Litterman, who was testifying during a hearing to consider “climate-related economic risks and their costs to the Federal Budget and the Global Economy.” Now, you know that Kennedy is going to have a field day with that topic. Litterman is the founder of Kepos Capital and the Chair of the Climate-Related Market Risk Subcommittee of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Kennedy asked a rather important question that you think someone pushing the climate agenda should know: How much would it cost to go carbon neutral by 2050, at least generally?

But Litterman said he was not sure.

“So you’re advocating we do these things, but you don’t know the ultimate cost?” Kennedy pressed.

“Yes, absolutely, I certainly don’t know the ultimate cost,” Litterman said.

Kennedy then asked another witness, President of the American Action Forum Dr. Douglas Holtz-Eakin, the same question, who estimated $50 trillion.

“If we spend $50 trillion … how much will that lower world temperatures?” Kennedy asked, with Holtz-Eakin saying he doesn’t know because it would be contingent on China.

Kennedy then asked what would happen if China and India didn’t cooperate with the effort. Litterman said then he didn’t know how much that would lower temperatures.

But that was when Kennedy got to the crux of the matter in a moment that’s going viral.

Kennedy asked if Litterman believed that Xi Jinping would do anything that was not in China’s best interest, but do it because it was in the global best interest.

That question goes to the heart of the problem on the left. Litterman said, yes, he believed that Xi understands we have to work together to address this global problem. That means anything he has to say after that has no validity if he’s that delusional.

“Do you believe in the Tooth Fairy?” Kennedy asked. “No, sir,” Litterman said.

“Do you believe in the Easter Bunny?” Kennedy queried. “No, sir,” Litterman replied.

“Do you believe that Jimmy Hoffa died of natural causes?” “No sir,” Litterman answered.

But if you believe that Xi would do anything that was truly against his interests for the benefit of the world, then that’s the functional equivalent of all those prior statements. These are the kinds of folks that the Biden team is relying on to make significant decisions that are going to have a huge impact on us and our economy. And the problem is that, given how the Biden team has behaved, Litterman isn’t the only one who’s deluded on this. They all are.
