We’ve been asking the question: When will the FBI get around to searching the location that probably has the largest cache of Biden documents — the University of Delaware that has all Biden’s Senate records? That’s from 1973 to 2009 — 36 years — so that’s thousands of documents.
Now, there’s a new report that the FBI has searched the Biden collection at the University of Delaware on at least two separate occasions in recent weeks in connection with Biden’s mishandling of classified documents. It’s not clear when the searches took place. According to the report, they haven’t found any classified documents yet, but they’re continuing to search through the material. There are a ton of documents there, so it could take some time.
According to the University of Delaware, more than 1,850 boxes of archival records from Biden’s Senate career “arrived at the Library on June 6, 2012.” So that raises yet another question since he left the Senate in Jan. 2009: where were those documents in the meantime? There were also 415 gigabytes of electronic records formerly belonging to Biden included in the collection. Even though the material was donated in 2012, more than ten years ago, it’s still not open to the public.
The searches were conducted with the cooperation of Biden’s attorneys.
The FBI did retrieve material for review.
Investigators retrieved materials from two university locations on two different days. The material did not appear to have classified markings, according to the source, but they are now being reviewed by the FBI.
They examined two separate batches of documents during the searches: an archive of materials from Biden’s time in the US Senate and documents that Biden sent to the university in recent years.
Thus, it looks like the University not only has the Senate collection but another more recent collection as well. So that’s even more material to look through and it’s not clear how much that encompasses.
Of course, the University, the DOJ, and the White House aren’t talking about or confirming the searches, because why keep us informed? The White House doesn’t tell us anything until they are called on it and backed into a corner.
That means that the FBI has searched Biden’s homes in Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach, the Penn Biden Center in D.C., and now the University of Delaware. As we reported, the National Archives also grabbed Biden documents from his lawyer’s office in Boston and also inquired about Biden documents at the “PA office of the Penn Biden Center.”
What’s also interesting about this report is that it appears to have been leaked to multiple news organizations by “two senior law enforcement officials,” in the words of NBC. So someone wants us to know this was going on, even if the White House isn’t telling us.
