More 'Weird Developments' in the Paul Pelosi Arrest Story

As we previously reported, Paul Pelosi, the venture capitalist husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), was arrested on Saturday and charged with two misdemeanors: driving while under the influence and driving with a blood alcohol of 0.08 or more.

But “weird developments” seem to keep happening in this case, in the words of SF Gate.

Now, a Pelosi spokesperson, Larry Kamer, is pushing back, issuing a statement saying several reports about the case have included “incorrect information.”

“A prior driving offense erroneously attributed to Mr. Pelosi is untrue and likely refers to an unrelated person with the same name. This error must be corrected,” the spokesperson for Pelosi said in the statement. “There are also incorrect reports that misstate the timing of events.” The statement did not clarify what things were supposedly inaccurate or what the “timing of events” refers to. Reports indicate that the car accident that preceded the arrest occurred at about 10:26 p.m., Pelosi was arrested around 11:44 p.m., and then not booked until 4:13 a.m. He was released on $5,000 bail about three hours later.

However, NBC Bay Area had reported that Pelosi had a prior DUI in 2018, according to SFGate. But they stealth edited that out of their story.

(As of Tuesday morning, NBC Bay Area has removed that claim in the article referenced without any note explaining its deletion. It is unclear when the removal took place; an NBC Bay Area representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment from SFGATE.)

But then NBC Bay Area did print a subsequent story where they talked about the spokesperson’s statement.

The statement also refuted an element of NBC Bay Area’s reporting Sunday night that Napa court records show Paul Pelosi was arrested on a similar charge four years ago, saying “a prior driving offense erroneously attributed to Mr. Pelosi is untrue and likely refers to another person with the same name.”

But they made no comment about their reporting or the veracity of the claim, which yes, is “weird.”

Nancy Pelosi is still refusing to comment on the matter, calling it a “private matter.”
