Trump Busts De Blasio's Improper Political Retribution Against Him

Never underestimate how much Democrats will do, even hurting Americans in the process, in order to advance their own political power or get retribution against a political opponent.

There’s doubtless no political opponent who Democrats want to do in more than President Donald Trump.

Even now, they’re still trying to hurt him however they can.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio moved to end any contracts that Trump might have with the city, citing the Capitol riot as an excuse for trying to get rid of the contracts and cut off income to the Trump Organization. The contracts in question involve two ice rinks, the Central Park Carousel and the Trump Golf Links in the Bronx. The contracts earn about $17 million a year for The Trump Organization.

It was Trump who famously remade the Wollman Rink into a profitable venture that actually helped New York. It was also Trump that turned the dissolute area by the Whitestone Bridge into a world-class public golf course. The city had signed a twenty-year contract with The Trump Organization.

Trump is now fighting back publicly. He specifically called out the effort against the golf course in a statement released today.

At the request of Mayor Bloomberg, the former Mayor of New York City, I took a longtime scandal-ridden site in the Bronx, which for almost 30 years had been a money-losing disaster that the city could not get built, and transformed it into a magnificent Jack Nicklaus Signature designed golf course, club house and amenities, which employs a large number of people and has been a showcase of beauty and success. I invested many millions of dollars, all cash, in this project in order to get it done, which I did, starting from scratch, in record time. It was an amazing effort by many people pulling together to finally revitalize this troubled part of New York City. It was a large-scale version of the Wollman Skating Rink in Central Park, which I saved many years ago.

Now under Mayor De Blasio, he wants to CONFISCATE the project from me for no reason whatsoever, and terminate my long-term arrangement with the city—and to think I just opened a beautiful $10 million clubhouse. The course has received rave reviews, is considered one of the top ten open to the public facilities in the United States (could even be the best!), is designed for tournament play, and Mayor De Blasio wants to take it away after all of the work was so successfully done, and so much money was spent. So unfair—this is what happens in Communist Countries, not in America!

The Trump Organization is now suing the city over the failure to adhere to the contracts. “Mayor de Blasio had a pre-existing, politically-based predisposition to terminate Trump-related contracts, and the city used the events of January 6, 2021 as a pretext to do so,” the suit alleges , and they are moving to stop the city from cancelling the contracts.

But this is also backfiring on de Blasio big time, as such Democratic actions often do.

As the New York Post Editorial Board points out, there was a big problem with the people that de Blasio then engaged to take over the project.

“It doesn’t make sense,” the mayor admitted Monday, that City Hall effectively gave a homeless-shelter operator a contract to take over the golf course previously run by the Trump Organization. The issue hit the news because of CORE Services’ scandals, but the outfit also had no relevant experience — only the right political contacts.[….]

Ferry Point Links LLC, the newly created outfit that got the no-bid, 13-year Parks Department deal to take over the 18-hole Ferry Point links, is run by no less than CORE’s CEO, Jack Brown, and out of the same address, The City reports. He partnered with an out-of-town firm that does run golf courses, but the deal sure looks smelly now that he’s been exposed as using a web of for-profit firms to make big money off the nonprofit CORE, which pays him a salary of more than $1 million a year.

This just showed once again how political this all was.

The new people the city engaged to takeover the Wollman Rink are already in place and have already hiked the prices costing New Yorkers more to skate. “They told us we’d get a more responsible operator than Trump. This is more expensive than Trump,” Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer said.

Brewer also expressed concern that the new company may not “have any operational experience of any sort.” The company, Wollman Park Partners was formed less than a month before getting the contract, which raises more questions about how they came about getting the contract.

Finally, because The Trump Organization is contesting the city’s actions in court, it isn’t over with yet. The Trump Organization is demanding a freeze on any new contracts for the golf course. If the court finds that the city improperly acted to end the contracts, then there’s a clause where they have to give Trump Organization $30 million in damages. So,the Democrats effort to get political retribution could cost the city a ton of money.
