GOP Up in Arms at Pelosi's Disrespect to 13 Service Members Killed in Kabul

House Republicans were up in arms today.

Multiple Republicans said that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) prevented them from reading the names of the 13 service members who were killed at the Kabul airport in the terrorist attack last Thursday, after a moment of silence was held on the House floor.

“How badly do Nancy Pelosi and the House Democrats want to cover up this Afghanistan debacle? They just blocked Members of Congress from reading the names of the service members who sacrificed their lives in Afghanistan last week.” Congressman Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) tweeted. “Don’t you think our military deserves better?”

Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL), who lost his legs fighting in Afghanistan, told The Floridian that Pelosi refused to recognize them to read the names.

“We gaveled in, had a prayer, said the Pledge of Allegiance, took a moment of silence with pretty much all Republican veterans, then asked to be recognized to read names and bring up Afghanistan legislation. They did not acknowledge us, and just closed the House down,” said Rep. Mast.

Rep. Greg Steube also confirmed it. “House Democrats just refused to recognize Republican veterans on the House Floor to read the names of our fallen service members in Afghanistan. That’s how far our nation has fallen,” he wrote.

This really is unconscionable on Pelosi’s part. Not surprising, though, giving all the vile things that she has been behind.

Pelosi’s action was on top of Joe Biden failing to actually mention their individual names during his speech today, and the very bad meetings that he had with several of the family members at Dover Air Base, and the attitude he actually gave some of them.

Mark Schmitz, Jared Schmitz’s father, told Biden, “Don’t you ever forget that name. Don’t you ever forget that face. Don’t you ever forget the names of the other 12. And take some time to learn their stories.” He said that seemed to disturb Biden, who bristled at Schmitz’s words, and then claimed that “[he knew] their stories.” That really means he doesn’t, and no one with any empathy would actually act that way in response to a grieving father.

Shana Chappell, Kareem Nikoui’s mother, who had her Instagram “mistakenly” disabled after posts criticizing Biden, said in one of them that when she met Biden in Dover, he rolled his eyes at her after she said he didn’t know what she was feeling, and that he threw his hand up behind him as he walked away from her as if to say “whatever.”

Multiple family members talked repeatedly about Biden checking his watch and talking more about his son than their sons. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki refused to respond to explain the watch- checking, when she was asked about this today.

It’s really hard to find more disgusting behavior in the face of such a tragedy. This isn’t empathy. This is sick.
