Karma Hits Atlanta Councilman Who Voted to Defund Police

An Atlanta mayoral candidate is getting hit with a little bit of karma.

According to Fox 5 Atlanta, City Council Member Antonio Brown had just gotten out of his car to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony and meet community leader Ben Norman, when at least four very young kids tried to steal the car in broad daylight. The kids were all no older than 12, the youngest, Brown estimated, about 6.

“One kid was in the driver’s seat. Ben attempted to open the door to get him out of the car. He fought with Ben. I then engaged and tried to get him out of the car. The three other kids were trying to figure out how to get in the car or stay out of the car. He started to hit on the gas. Ben let go,” said Brown.

Brown said he tried to stop them, but got dragged a short distance and eventually let go after about a half block.

“As he started to speed up, and I knew that if I had not let go, I knew I probably could have killed myself because he was going so fast, I would have started to tumble. And I would have hurt him,” Brown said.

Brown then filed a report with the police and they later found his car. It’s not clear if any of the kids were found or arrested.

Last year, Brown voted to defund $73 million from the Atlanta police. Fortunately, it didn’t pass, despite his vote.

Does this change Brown’s mind on the subject? It doesn’t sound like it. He said that he didn’t want to press charges and he blamed “generational poverty” for the actions of the kids. “Why aren’t they in school?” he exclaimed. “Why aren’t we enforcing systems to ensure that if they are not in school, they’re in recreational centers?”

Here’s a guy who’s running for mayor and he doesn’t know why these kids aren’t in school? Might want to ask those in charge in Atlanta. What party is in control there? I forget? First, he has no idea what the circumstances of the kids are, to try and blame “generational poverty” is a cop-out. But further, who has had generational control in Atlanta? So maybe he needs to be looking at his own party for how much they have messed things up there in Atlanta. Meanwhile, note: politician with Mercedes.

Of course, there may be another reason he’s not a fan of the police.

As the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported last year, he was indicted on multiple counts of fraud, for allegedly lying about his income on applications to obtain loans and credit cards which he used for personal purchases — including a Range Rover and Mercedes Benz C300. If that’s the same Mercedes, that’s a little extra karma.
