Over the weekend, we reported on how the CDC Director Rochelle Walensky took to the Sunday shows to try to explain the new CDC guidance that you no longer have to wear a mask if vaccinated.
Walensky claimed that the “science had evolved” over the past two weeks since she had been urging people to wear masks. This confused even ABC’s Martha Raddatz who asked how could it have changed in just those two weeks?
CDC Dir. Rochelle Walensky defends new mask guidance for vaccinated Americans, telling @MarthaRaddatz: "We now have science that has really just evolved even in the last two weeks that demonstrates that these vaccines are safe, they are effective." https://t.co/gpjJwNg0q7 pic.twitter.com/0t0SX6OmXN

“We now have science that has really just evolved even in the last two weeks that demonstrates that these vaccines are safe, they are effective,” Walensky said.
Dr. Anthony Fauci is now also making that same statement, about the “evolution of science.”
“The underlying reason for the CDC doing this was just based on the evolution of the science,” Fauci said in an interview with “Face the Nation” on last week’s announcement. “But if in fact this serves as an incentive for people to get vaccinated, all the better. I hope it does actually.” [….]
While the new guidance from the CDC was largely celebrated, it did bring some confusion, as the agency said last month Americans who have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus were still safer wearing masks in crowded outdoors settings and inside.
Fauci said three factors drove the change from health officials: an accumulation of data showing the “real-world effectiveness” of the vaccines, which are more than 90% effective in protecting against disease; new studies showing the vaccines protect against the new coronavirus variants; and information showing it’s unlikely a vaccinated person who becomes infected witch the coronavirus transmits it to someone else.
But as you can see, from Raddatz and even in that CBS story, even liberal media is wondering at the complete turnaround in guidance so quickly from just a couple of weeks ago saying that masks should still be required.
It’s also thrown some folks who have been wearing masks almost as a virtue signal into a swivet, saying they wouldn’t give up the mask.
But no worries, because it sounds like there may be more “evolving” yet to come, since this was too much “evolution” for some.
According to CBS, Fauci said the agency would release more specific guidelines and “significant clarifications” in coming weeks on mask wearing.
Oh, goodie. It should be fascinating to see what comes next.
