Fauci Wins the Prize of a Boatload of Money for 'Speaking Truth to Power'

You’re not going to believe this one.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the NIH, has just received a $1 million dollar Dan David Israeli prize, an award affiliated with Tel Aviv University. He’s being honored for “speaking truth to power” during the “politicized COVID-19 crisis.” The Committee claimed he was “courageously defending science in the face of uninformed opposition during the challenging COVID crisis.”

According to the Committee that gave him the award, he is “is the consummate model of leadership and impact in public health.” 10% of the money doesn’t actually go to him but goes to scholarships in his field and he gets to determine where it goes.

Can I say how ridiculous this truly is?

This is all about the left setting up Fauci as some kind of counterpoint to President Donald Trump, suggesting Fauci was some kind of godlike “scientist” (as opposed to mostly a bureaucrat) to feed their Trump Derangement Syndrome. They’re playing these games while skipping over the times that Fauci praised Trump for saving lives by his quick actions, for example, in cutting off travel with China and with Europe. Not to mention that he always said that Trump followed his advice and didn’t depart from what he said.

Meanwhile, while Trump was following the advice of Fauci — as he should have been able to, given that he’s supposedly the “consummate professional” —  Fauci was not being straightforward.

Let’s recall how we started, back in March, when ‘Truth to Power’ Fauci told us about how we, the public, didn’t need to wear masks, even suggesting that wearing them could potentially be more problematic.

First, he says he can’t imagine the draconian measures that China employed would ever be employed or even feasible in the United States. Welcome to 2021 now, where all draconian measures are possible, and guess who seems to want us to wear a mask for the foreseeable future, even after vaccination? You guessed it, Fauci.

He later admitted in June that when he told people “there was no reason for people to walking around with a mask” (even as the interviewer explained that people would be hanging on his every word), he was trying to protect the PPE supply because of a possible shortage. Uh-huh.

What kind of a “consummate professional” would do something like that? And who’s going to believe you when you sell your credibility down the road like that?

But that, of course, wasn’t the only time he did something like that. For our greater good. Of course.

There were also his ever-changing numbers on herd immunity, as I wrote about at the time.

Initially, Fauci was telling the media that he thought it would take 60 to 70% getting vaccinated to reach herd immunity. He then admitted to the NYT that he’d been slowly moving the goalposts up. But that now he thought Americans were “ready to hear” that it might need up to 90%. He then later adjusted that to “70 to 85%” in an interview with Dana Bash.

This isn’t truth. This is treating Americans like children who need to be manipulated and controlled by their patriarchal —  dare we say dictatorial? — government. He even admitted polling factored into his approach on the matter. And this is “science,” not politics how?

As I said then:

It’s a bureaucrat saying what he thinks people want to hear, even now. She even has to ask him, pinky swear, is this really the right number now? Because after this, how would you ever know? He has imploded all his credibility. “We have to be humble about what we don’t know.” If you were humble about what you didn’t know, you wouldn’t be making up numbers that are all just a ‘guesstimate” and then hugely influencing public policy based on those “guesstimates.”

In the meantime, we also see now the mask advice has changed again, as of last month, with his variable comments on double masking in January.

From Fox News:

Dr. Anthony Fauci, President Biden’s chief medical adviser on COVID-19, said two face masks are likely more effective than one against the novel coronavirus, despite significant uncertainty on the subject.

“If you have a physical covering with one layer, you put another layer on it just makes common sense that it likely would be more effective,” Fauci told NBC News on Monday.

Then there was this also in January:

Huh?

The CDC then later changed their recommendation in February suggesting that double masking could be more effective, suggesting putting a surgical mask underneath a cloth mask, basically admitting that the single mask wasn’t the gold standard of protection that many had been selling us.

But let’s be frank here about the song about Fauci that this prize is trying to sell. The truly unique and amazing effort and result here were from Trump partnering in a way with private businesses that hadn’t been done before (through prior presidential administrations and previously with Fauci). That’s what sped the effort for the vaccines and got them done in under a year. Even with the Biden administration lying about it, claiming there was “no plan” and trying to take the credit, it was a truly remarkable achievement.
