Rand Paul Rips Into GOP for Going Along With the Porkulus Relief Bill: We Need 'Better Republicans'

Last night, Congress passed the Porkulus, an omnibus stimulus bill that was supposed to address in part the problems local governments had created by their Wuhan coronavirus restrictions.

While giving Americans a paltry $600 for their troubles, the bill contained such a huge amount of pork they could have fried it up as bacon.

As we reported, President Donald Trump ripped the bill over that and over the fact that there was so much money going to all kinds of other places but not to the American people who needed it, saying there should be a $2000 payment for each American rather than the other expenditures.

Trump detailed some of the crazy, as we reported earlier.

“$40 million for the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., which is not even open for business. $1 billion for the Smithsonian and an additional $154 million for the National Gallery of Art. Likewise, these facilities are essentially not open. $7 million for reef fish management. $25 billion to combat Asian carp, $2.5 million dollars to count the number of amberjack fish in the Gulf of Mexico, a provision to promote the breeding of fish in federal hatcheries.”

“The bill also allows stimulus checks for the family members of illegal aliens, allowing them to get up to one thousand eight hundred dollars each. This is far more than the Americans are given,” Trump explained. “Despite all of this wasteful spending and much more than nine hundred billion dollar package provides hardworking taxpayers with only 600 dollars each in relief payments.”

He said that the payment to American citizens should be 2000 each and a lot of the pork needed to be taken out, especially the money to foreign governments.

“It’s called the COVID Relief Bill. But it has almost nothing to do with COVID.This bill contains $85.5 million for assistance to Cambodia. $134 million to Burma, $1.3 billlion for Egypt and the Egyptian military, which will go out and buy almost exclusively Russian military equipment. $25 million for democracy and gender programs in Pakistan. $505 million to Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.”

But Trump wasn’t the only person calling it out.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) who has a history of calling out mindless spending at this time of year, blasted not only the Democrats but the Republicans as well for signing aboard this monstrosity that none of them had even read. He laid out a basic truth: we need more Republicans but we need better Republicans if they go along with things like this.

He agreed with the president’s words to knock out a lot of the extraneous things in the bill but he said what they would do is never take away any of the spending, just add the $2000 on top of all the pork, because they wouldn’t give up the pork.

So where are all the other Republicans? A few others did call it out, voting against it too including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) . But we can blast the Democrats from now until forever but it’s the Republicans who are also allowing this to get all out of control.
