Remember when media was predicting that Florida was going to be exploding with cases because they kept beaches open for longer than media thought they should be open?
That never materialized and it’s really stunning that media seemed to want to wish that on Florida as though to punish them for their actions and/or having a Republican governor. Media has lauded New York Governor Andrew Cuomo who leads the nation in deaths, including deaths that may be directly connected to his nursing home order, in addition to questions of a cover-up involving undercounting of nursing home deaths. Meanwhile DeSantis has been attacked despite doing a terrific job and he finally just appears to have had it with the hypocrisy of the media.
On Wednesday, during questions about the firing of a data employee, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis just let the media have it for wishing ill on the state with an epic mic drop.

DeSantis explained that their data was transparent, that Dr. Deborah Birx had in fact said they were the best state for data. Then he let it fly.
“Any insinuation otherwise is just typical partisan narrative trying to be spun,” he said to reporters. “And part of the reason is you’ve got a lot of people in your profession who waxed poetically for weeks and weeks about how Florida was going to be just like New York.”
“Wait two weeks,” DeSantis said. “Well, hell, we’re eight weeks away from that, and it hasn’t happened.”
He explained how they have a lower death rate compared to most other places including the “Acela corridor” despite being “the number one landing spot for tens of thousands of people leaving the number one hot zone in the world.”
“We succeeded and I think that people just don’t want to recognize that because it challenges their narrative, it challenges their assumption,” DeSantis said. “So they’ve gotta try to find a ‘boogeyman. Maybe it’s that there are black helicopters circling the Department of Health. If you believe that, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.”
Boom. Never has the media been so completely finished off in under a couple of minutes. You can see Mike Pence trying to hold it together, obviously thinking, this guy is good!

And @GovRonDeSantis was ABSOLUTELY justified. The same media that trashed his response lavished praise upon Cuomo — whose disastrous nursing home management drove his state's fatality rate. DeSantis and Kemp (and others!) are owed apologies. https://t.co/vE9rsTIwpL

Watching the media go after DeSantis for protecting his citizens while Cuomo enforced policies that resulted in thousands of deaths is exactly why people call the media useless.
