Tech billionaire CEO of Space X and Tesla Elon Musk has been a champion of the fight against stay-at-home orders.

He’s led by example, opening up Tesla in defiance of the orders in California last week and defying them. At the same time, they were taking safety precautions, wearing gloves and masks, maintaining social distancing, even taking the temperatures of workers. Funny how if you treat people like adults, they can behave responsibly. This should have been the way to respond to it. Musk has threatened to move out of state and places like Texas have said they’d love to have Tesla.

From Townhall:

Last month, he called lockdown orders across the country “fascist.”

“This is the time to think about the future, and also to ask, is it right to infringe upon people’s rights as what is happening right now?” Musk said on Tesla’s Q1 2020 earnings call.

“I think the people are going to be very angry about this and are very angry. It’s like somebody should be, if somebody wants to stay in the house that’s great, they should be allowed to stay in the house and they should not be compelled to leave. But to say that they cannot leave their house, and they will be arrested if they do, this is fascist. This is not democratic. This is not freedom. Give people back their g****n freedom.

While that definitely stirred up some on the left, what he tweeted on Sunday has really driven some of them around the bend. He encouraged his 34 million followers to “Take the red pill.”

The line comes from “The Matrix” about seeking the truth:

“You take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.”

So it could mean simply waking up to the truth.

But “taking the red pill” is also frequently used to describe waking up or walking away from being a Democrat/liberal and becoming a conservative.

The announcement was cheered and endorsed by many, including Ivanka Trump, who also changed her party affiliation from Democrat to Republican. Her brother also weighed in.

He’s not the only one.

The response from the Matrix’s co-creator and director Lilly Wachowski was less than civilized. She responded to Musk and Ivanka Trump, “F*** both of you.”
