We’re likely going to see a lot of folks test positive before this is over.
That’s why it’s good to remember that most cases are mild. So far in the U.S., 99% of the cases have been mild. as the Worldometer stats have shown about the virus.
But it’s still pretty dangerous for the elderly and those who may be immunocompromised or have other underlying conditions, particularly those with lung or respiratory issues.
News is now breaking that Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has tested positive, according to The Hill.
“Senator Rand Paul has tested positive for COVID-19. He is feeling fine and is in quarantine. He is asymptomatic and was tested out of an abundance of caution due to his extensive travel and events,” Sergio Gor, Paul’s spokesman said.
Gor added that Paul “was not aware of any direct contact with any infected person.”
Paul is the first senator and third lawmaker overall to announce that they had tested positive. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) and Rep. Ben McAdams (D-Utah) said last week they had tested positive.
It’s not clear how he acquired it. Gor said that the staff had been working remotely already, for the last ten days so no one had had contact with Paul.
Paul had lung damage after being attacked by his neighbor in 2017, when he had six broken ribs. He had to have part of a lung removed last year.
Diaz-Balart said Saturday he is feeling better after a week but said the initial symptoms hit him “like a ton of bricks.” McAdams, meanwhile, told NBC’s “Today” last week that the symptoms “felt like I had a belt around my chest, and so I couldn’t breathe deeply.”
Naturally, the tolerant left makes weighs in. Paul voted against a virus stimulus package last week.
Karma.

I feel terrible for @RandPaul that he tested positive for #Covid_19. I wish him a speedy recovery. At the same time, he obviously shouldn't ask the government for any help right now. This is a perfect time for the bootstraps he offers everyone else. Libertarianism to the rescue!

Hey @RandPaul: "Coronavirus testing in Kentucky is still reserved for those who need it the most…Doctors are following federal guidelines that prioritize people who have been hospitalized, those with the worst symptoms and those who are at highest risk."https://t.co/F21xidPWy9
