We’ve seen a lot of dumb things form media in regard to the Wuhan virus. Doubtless we’ll see more as this whole thing shakes out.

But here’s a tweet definitely in the running for dumbest Wuhan virus concern so far from Chris Megerian, the White House reporter working for the Los Angeles Times.

So the president is apprising on issues concerning a pandemic and you’re concerned about his hat? Really?

Um, he’s the president of the…wait for it…USA. So yes, he can wear a hat that has his name and says USA, as he has many times. He has others as well as jackets, too. Apparently Chris hasn’t been paying attention or is new.

There is nothing to do with campaigning which is what this character seems to be suggesting.

But in any event, just for him, it doesn’t violate any rules and the Hatch Act doesn’t apply to the President.

The Hatch Act defines employee for purposes of the act as “any individual, other than the President and Vice President, employed or holding office in—(A) an Executive Agency other than the General Accounting Office [Government Accountability Office]; or (B) a position within the competitive service which is not in an Executive agency….”
