One of the stories that broke this week was the report that an outside prosecutor had been appointed by Attorney General William Barr to review the case against Gen. Michael Flynn, a case that has come under much question.
Questions have been raised by Flynn’s attorney about prosecutorial misconduct and Flynn has made a motion to withdraw the guilty plea which he had entered.
Barr reportedly has assigned Jeffrey Jensen, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri.
But interestingly, Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s “pit bull,” Andrew Weissman is spreading a conspiracy theory about the alleged appointment.
According to Weissman, it’s all a ruse.
From Washington Examiner:
“All they did was swapped out a loser case for starting an investigation that is going to be of Comey, McCabe, Pete Strzok,” Weissmann told MSNBC host Chuck Todd.
All three officials were involved in the investigation into the Trump 2016 campaign’s alleged ties to Russia, which Trump and his allies have called a “witch hunt.” Mueller, who took over the inquiry after FBI Director James Comey was fired in May 2017, found no criminal conspiracy when the investigation ended last year.
Now, that seems rather silly since if they are being looked into, they’re already covered by the investigation into the Russia probe by U.S. Attorney John Durham.
So either Weissman is just trying to spin bull to make Trump/Barr look bad or perhaps he’s just panicking as to what Barr and the DOJ might be looking at. Or is he saying that reviewing the Flynn case would lead back to James Comey, Andrew McCabe, and Peter Strzok?
Weissmann who is considered the person behind the Mueller report and investigation is now an NBC News legal analyst. He has tried to cast aspersions on Barr as Barr has people getting to the bottom of all the machinations of the actions against the Trump team.
Weissman questioned what the reason for the review of the Flynn case was, claiming the judge hadn’t found any misconduct.
Just like John Brennan, this guy sure sounds nervous if he’s spinning conspiracy theories.
