Former NYPD detective Daniel Sprague was the Stage on Broadway in Nashville, celebrating his 50th birthday.
He anticipated presents, and he certainly got those including a nice red hat with the words “Make Fifty Great Again” and a shirt with and American flag with the words “Making America Great since 1970” from his wife.
What he didn’t anticipate was the attack from a woman who was at the music venue.
Sprague said he was with his wife and friends at the establishment.
From NY Post:
“I was outside with my friends when some grabbed me from behind, spun me around and punched me in the face,” said Sprague, who retired from the NYPD in 2009.
“At first I thought it was a friend until I got hit. I couldn’t believe someone could get that upset.”
He was baffled by the vitriol and said he showed respect for politicians he didn’t like.
“I love Trump, but I wouldn’t hit someone who had a Bernie hat on,” said Sprague, who spent more than two decades on the NYPD and retired as a member of the elite Emergency Service Unit.
Sprague said she was yelling, “How dare you!” He also said she cut him to the bone on his face, that she must have been wearing a ring or had keys or something.

While the woman grabbed his hat and punched him, he didn’t punch her back and she got away. But he did report it to the police.
