House Intel Chair Adam Schiff (D-CA), the primary House Democratic impeachment manager, must have realized the game was pretty much up last night.

After word came in from the respective senators in question that there were enough votes to shut down calling more witnesses or evidence, it was clear that his goose was probably cooked on the witness question.

So he made a last plea Thursday night – give me a week of witnesses.

From NY Post:

“I will make an offer to opposing counsel, who says this will stretch on indefinitely if you decide to have a single witness,” Schiff, the lead House impeachment manager, told senators.

“Let’s cabin the depositions to one week. I think we can. I think we should. I think we must,” the California Democrat added.

How about no?

First, it wouldn’t take a week as a practical matter, because executive privilege would come into play for the witnesses the Democrats want. Then what about all the witnesses the Republicans want? How would you get them in a week or two?

But beyond that, it’s not about witnesses, really for the Democrats. It’s about continuing the fishing expedition, to continue the attack on the President. If you gave them a week, something else would drop in that week and Schiff would say now this demands more time for investigation.

At this point, the Republicans should have learned the Democrats’ playbook on this from this episode and from the Kavanaugh hearings. If anyone buys into this, they really should just step down.

The only way to stop the nonsense is to stop the nonsense now, in its tracks.

Republicans, please do your duty.
