One of the things that feels so silly about the whole impeachment effort is how little there is to it all.

On the Ukraine call, President Donald Trump asked for Ukraine to see if the case involving Burisma/Bidens was properly closed and not because of corruption.

“The other thing, There’s a lot of talk about Biden’s son.. that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great. Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution so if you can look into it… It sounds horrible to me.”

That’s the only reference to the Bidens. That’s it. No quid pro quo. That’s why he was impeached. The prior comment in the transcript, the “do us a favor” part referred to looking into the 2016 server question, nothing to do with the Bidens.

“I would like you to do us a favor though because our country has been through a lot and Ukraine knows a lot about it. I would like you to find out what happened with this whole situation with Ukraine, they say Crowdstrike… I guess you have one of your wealthy people… The server, they say Ukraine has it. There are a lot of things that went on, the· whole situation..I think you are surrounding yourself with some of the same people.”

Given everything done in the prior administration, the fact that Democrats think that is impeachable is laughable.

Sounds like the Trump defense team pretty much had the same thought in mind.

They did a great job of pointing out how empty it all was. But they also noted that, by Democratic standards, there was a lot more evidence that Barack Obama did a quid pro quo with Russia in his infamous “flexible” video.

Imagine if that had been Trump, Democrats would have had him baled and stacked already. For much less, we’ve had an impeachment and months of insanity. But Obama? Brief comment and then everyone moved on.

He showed us what a real linkage to future elections looks like – and one that had devastating consequences for Ukraine by whiffing on Russia before and after his re-election.
