U.S. officials had already pointed to Iran for shooting down the Ukrainian plane that crashed shortly after Iran fired missiles at two U.S. bases in Iraq.

Iran had initially proclaimed it an accident.

But tonight, they finally admitted both on their state television and in a statement by Foreign Minister Javad Zarif on Twitter that they had “unintentionally” shot down the plane, blaming human error.

But Zarif also blamed “US adventurism.”

The U.S, of course, had nothing to do with it, so Iran’s apology is less than sincere.

Both U.S. and Canadian officials said that they had evidence it was shot down.

According to NBC, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canadian officials had intelligence from multiple sources, including allies as well as Canada’s own intelligence, and “the evidence indicates that the plane was shot down by an Iranian surface-to-air missile.” Trudeau said then that it could have been unintentional.

But the investigation will continue.

176 people were killed in the shootdown.
