We’re hearing a lot now about Hunter Biden’s business dealings in China and Ukraine when his father was the point man for the Obama administration for those two countries, despite having no experience previously either with the energy business or with Ukraine.

Indeed, Hunter just stepped down this week from the board of BHR, the entity that he formed when he made a deal with a Chinese government-backed firm while his father was Vice President.

Hunter Biden spoke to ABC this week and admitted he had spoken with his father about his business dealings briefly despite his father saying he had not. Hunter also admitted that he likely would not have gotten some of the positions he has gotten if his name were not Biden.

Joe Biden previously had claimed that he had not had any discussions with his son about his business dealings.

But the recent furor over Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings wasn’t the first time there have been questions raised about his work and his father’s influence.

Back in 2008 when Biden was running for President in the primary against Barack Obama and media wasn’t particularly concerned about having to protect Biden to help his viability against President Donald Trump, Tom Brokaw asked a very blunt and direct question about the conflicts Biden had with his son’s work.

From Townhall:

Tom Brokaw grilled Joe Biden about Hunter being hired by MBNA, a credit card company based in Delaware, right out of law school. Biden had received campaign contributions from the company before and was even working on a bill MBNA backed.

“That’s a reference to your son being hired right out of law school by a big company here in Delaware that is in the credit card business, MBNA. He got about $100,000 a year, as I recall. You received $214,000 in campaign contributions from the company and from its employees,” Brokaw said. “At the same time, you were fighting for a bankruptcy bill that MBNA really wanted to get passed through the Senate, making it much tougher for everyone to file bankruptcy.”

Brokaw also noted that Joe Biden opposed efforts to protect people in bankruptcy, pushing MBNA’s position in regard to the issue. “Wasn’t it inappropriate,” Brokaw asked Biden.

“Absolutely not,” Biden replied. Biden’s response was basically Hunter could have gotten another job making more after leaving law school.

Donations from MBNA, fighting for their interests and his son getting a job from them. And he doesn’t get how that’s a problem? Either he really doesn’t get it and that’s a problem. Or he really does get it and that’s a bigger problem.

What was Joe’s further response? The same “I don’t discuss business with my son” response.

Well, for “no discussion,” there seems to be an unhappy coincidence between the things Joe is dealing with in his official capacity and his son’s businesses, as Brokaw observed, and being point man on Ukraine and China for Obama seems to show.

If you accept Biden’s word, somehow he didn’t discuss when he flew Hunter to China with him on Air Force 2 so Hunter could meet with folks speaking about his BHR deal either.

Biden knew such conflicts were an issue in 2008. But then he did nothing to tell his son it’s a problem so he continued to have these conflicts?

And this guy wants to be president?
